Self-Defense Club, The Gym, Monday afternoon

The punching bags were back, and Hoshi was already taking a few punches at one as she waited for everyone else. "Welcome back. I hope you guys had a better weekend than I did," said Hoshi with a frown.

"The best way to stay safe is to avoid situations where you might run into trouble, like areas with poor lighting or trying to walk home after dark by yourselves. And, for goodness sake, when the island gets invaded, you're better off staying in your safe location than taking a chance on the streets," said Hoshi, making eye contact with everyone in turn.

"That said, if you do run into trouble, you should aim to disable your opponent by striking certain points on the body, which are listed on the handout that I'll pass around," she continued. "Keep in mind that this should only be for self-defense. You shouldn't go around hitting people. We don't have any dummies to practice on today, so we'll be using the punching bags instead."

Amber decided to beat the holy crap out of her punching bag today, sticking to the facial area. The one she imagined on the bag.

Murdock was lounging in the bleachers, just watching all the students. From behind a pair of sunglasses.

That wasn't a soft snore, honest.

"A knee to the groin also works really well," pointed out Hoshi. "Or at least it does with guys."

Amber nodded and sent her knee into the punching bag's fake groin. "Take that!"

"That's good! Just remember that they deserve it," said Hoshi.

Tony, watching nearby, winced in sympathy with the bag.

With her already crippling kick to the shin in her arsenal, Turtle had to admit that she felt fearful of the kinds of damage she could do to more sensitive places, but that didn't stop her from attempting to improve her repertoire. She worked especially on punches, because she knew she was crap for arm strength, and that was what she really needed to work on.

Amber glanced over at Tony and gave him a small, sort of apologetic smile.

"Right!" Amber kneed the punching bag again. Just in case she didn't get it good the first time.

"Especially when they take out for a romantic walk in the woods that turns into something else," added Hoshi.

Amber paused at that to look over at Hoshi. She raised a brow.

That sounded a lot like what happened with Chuck.

Hoshi had no idea what Amber was thinking, and frankly, she was distracted by her own issues.

"It was awful," she said. "I felt completely humiliated."

Near the end of the club meeting, Teddy poked his head in to search out Hoshi. He kept away from the punching bags and any chance he might end up getting smacked to get over to talk to her. "Hi, um... can I ask a question?"
