The Sidewalk In Front of the Dorms, Wednesday Morning

Francine had been afraid she wouldn't pull off looking surprised when she stood on the sidewalk outside the dorms and beheld the blue chalk river



filled with fish of varying sizes, shapes, and meltiness, but when she stepped over the large, realistic-looking bass and it started belting out "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" at her, it really didn't take much acting chops to do a convincing EEK!

Sokka had been walking... well, somewhere. He didn't really have anything to do on Wednesdays. But when he saw the sidewalk, he couldn't do anything other than just stop and stare and point. "...FISH!!!"

"IDIDN'TDOIT!" Francine immediately responded. "Um. I mean. I know! Fish! What the heck?

"I don't KNOW what the heck!" Sokka replied, having apparently been struck dumb by the sheer absurdity of the scene before them. "Voilà, FISH!!!"

Viki blinked at the river that had not been there before and knelt down beside it curious, but touching nothing.

"I don't think," she observed mildly, "that fish are supposed to be lacking their bones while they're in water." Fake-water. And some of them were. It was entertaining.

"Fish aren't really supposed to ever be lacking their bones," Sokka pointed out. "Except when you're eating them."

"Well," she said, blinking over at him. "I shouldn't think people much eat them while they're in water either."

Sokka blinked back at her. "...What?"

She made perfect sense, really!

To her at least.

"Do you eat fish while they're still in the water?"

"Eels and jellyfish?" Francine suggested. Neither of which were represented in the fake river, of course.

"I'm not sure," she said, almost dubiously, "but not of these seem to be them."

"Those kind of look like they're made of jelly!" Francine pointed to the gummy fish.

That got a considering glance. "They do, a bit," she admitted. "Though not like jellyfish. Are there fish made of jelly in the sea do you think?"

Francine crouched down next to the river and poked tentatively at a green gummy fish with one finger. "If they were like these ones, I think they'd melt."

"I don't think I'd like dissolving," she noted. "So I expect a fish would feel the same way."

Francine blinked a few times. "I... suppose not? I don't think anybody would like dissolving."

"At least they haven't," she decided with a little nod of her head.

Momoko did not at all walk gleefully past every single singing bass at every opportunity. Nope.
