Fourth Floor Common Room [Thursday evening]

Ben's insomnia and compulsive need to tinker had resulted in more mouse droids than should be contained in one dorm room.

Which was why he was in the common room setting up an obstacle course for the five of them to race through.

Mac paused in the common room doorway, watching what he was up to for a moment. Interesting.

"What're you doing?" she asked curiously.

"Setting up a race course," Ben said with a small smile. "I got bored."

"Totally acceptable use of boredom time," Mac agreed, with a polite smile in return.

"I had a robot," she supplied. "Not much of a racer."

"Really?" Ben asked, moving a table out of the way. "Why not?"

Adam was looking for something to snack on and didn't expect to find an obstacle course taking over the common room.

"Whoa."

Mac indicated a height of about a handspan. "About so big, and one of those that moves on two legs. Not exactly the speediest thing around."

"What was he used for?" Ben asked.

"Hi," Ben said, sounding a little sheepish. "I got bored."

"Didn't really have a use," Mac admitted. "Not until I traded him with the pink kleptobunny to get my iPod back, anyway."

"You did that out of boredom?" Clearly Adam was impressed. "I wish I was that creative when I'm feeling bored."

"Kleptobunny?" Ben repeated.

"I made the droids, too," Ben said. "I figured I should move them before my roommate decided she'd had enough."

"It didn't talk to tell me what it was," Mac said. "But it stole a bunch of people's stuff and looked kind of bunny-ish, so..." She shrugged.

"Weird," Ben said. "I hadn't heard about that." He smiled. "But I've only been here a few months. Most of the stories I got were gremlin-related."

"Three years, and I have never been bitten," Mac said, almost proudly.

"Congratulations!" Ben said. "Being bit is apparently a family tradition. I've missed out so far."

"Very nice," Adam smiled. "I wish I was handy like that," he added. That was more Billy's department. Sure, Adam would lend a hand here and there, but he was nowhere near Billy's skill.

"It's something to do," Ben said with a self-conscious blush. "I don't paint or write or something."

"It does give you a certain amount of notoriety," Mac said with a smirk. "Not of the sort I'd want, but--"

She paused a moment. "You have a lot of family here?"

Ben nodded. "I'm a Skywalker?"

Mac gave a little snicker. "Then I'm pretty sure you've got the notoriety covered already," she decided.

Without even knowing any of them that well, she got that.

"Just what I've always wanted," Ben said dryly. "I'm Ben. The normal one."

Mac grinned, shrugging lightly. "I don't think I know any of you well enough to do anything but take your word for that," she said.

"You should," Ben said, nodding. "I'm very trustworthy."
