Fear, Fandom, fear. For Bobby had had not one, but two caffeinated beverages this afternoon. Which would explain why he was not so much sitting in the common room as bouncing around it, flipping through channels, then checking the fridge, then back to the couch, then back to the fridge, as if its contents would have magically changed in the five minutes since he last checked.

Hurley wasn't really throwing a 'party', per se. If it was a party, it'd be a 'let's stay inside and away from the creepy monsters' party. But really, it was just Hurley making waffles in the fifth floor common room, with the TV showing some roller derby movie.

He'd happily give waffles to anyone. Waffles were best shared, after all. And on a week like this... everybody deserved something nice. Waffles were what Hurley had to give, that night.

Hurley had the TV on to some random moddable channel, but he was more occupied in the kitchen. He was baking.

And in fact, he was done baking, as he pulled the cake out of the oven and set it on the stove so that he could get ready to ice it.

"Mmmm, cake," he said, to no one in particular.

[ooc: Very open, yes this entire post was inspired by that video.]

True to what he'd said last night, Bobby was spending tonight doing much the same thing: that is, hanging out in a common room with a bag full of chocolate, aimlessly flipping through channels and hoping people would stop by and be entertaining.

Tonight was a very important night. All thoughts of the weekend and issues with her father and anything else had been forgotten. Raven was in the common room with the TV on, and woe be to anyone who tried to change the channel.

Yes, that's right, Rumor Gal was back.

As soon as it was dark, Blossom was on the roof.

Yes, she knew now that it wasn't her Fandom, and there weren't any vampires out there to save people from, but habits were hard to break. Plus she wanted to be... just... somewhere she was supposed to be. So, here she was, on roof patrol, staring out at a Fandom she never knew.

She didn't really feel a need to help the town or the island. It was always the people she'd worried about. And they were all back somewhere she could get to, even if they maybe did somehow need her for something. A part of her hoped that the Momoko from here was at that other Fandom, but she felt bad wishing that on someone else.

She stared out at the twinkling lights of the buildings that she knew only as places to find supplies, bodies, or vampires, but that here were apparently full of happy, unafraid people even though the sun had already set.

She didn't miss her Fandom one bit, but she did wish she'd been asked where she wanted to go if the island was going to kick her off.

After coming up with the idea last night, Hoshi had been busy all day trying to pull everything together. To emphasize that this was not a Valentine's celebration, there were no hearts. Instead, as a nod to Chinese New Year, Hoshi had decorated with paper lanterns. In the kitchen, there was plenty moddable food from Ching Tai, desserts from J,GOB, and even ice cream from Chilly Boulder in the freezer if anyone wanted it.

The dance floor was ready for use. Hoshi had carefully picked a selection of music that was not sappy or mushy at all. However, she suspected she would be spending more time in the ball pit than the dance floor.

Welcome the the Anti-Valentine's Day Party. No date? No problem!

Okay, not actually had Bobby had class today, he'd also done the homework he'd busily been avoiding on Monday.

To celebrate this, there was pie from J,GoB.

Lots of pie from J,GoB. It seems they'd baked a few two many turtle pies and wanted Bobby to take the extras off their hands. Bobby had misundertood at first, of course, and had thought they were offering him a turtle for every pie he bought.

But really, who would do that? That's just silly.

If there was any question if Hurley was dealing healthily with recent events, well... he was sitting in the common room on the couch, watching Monday Night RAW, and eating his way through a box of ho-hos. It was already mostly gone.

But he'd happily repress and act like a normal teenage boy if anyone stopped in and asked him why he had chocolate sort of smeared at the corner of his mouth.

The violence on the TV was kind of cathartic, though.

Marco really, really hated the cold. But unlike everyone else, he didn't actually need to deal with the cold and lack of electricity as a human. Which is why there was a polar bear sprawled in the third floor common room, seemingly almost happy with life.

The polar bear was also playing with a Coca-Cola bottle. And old school, glass Coca-Cola bottle. Just because he was cold, didn't mean he had lost all of his sense of humor.

In a shocking change of pace, Sookie made her way out to the common room in the evening due to some rumblings in her own tummy, and poked through the fridge to see what she could put together.

In the end, in an actually shocking change of pace, she took the lazy girl's way out, and ordered Chinese. And since she was hungry, she ordered way, way too much food -- that was always the problem with ordering out. Everything always sounded amazing.

So, Sookie was curled up in front of the TV within moments, channel-surfing and picking at a plate of food from Ching Tai. She didn't even feel guilty about not cooking for once. Everyone was allowed a day off.

Hayley was, thankfully, not making a giant mess in the common room again. This time she just had a bowl of popcorn sitting mostly untouched on a coffee table. Hayley herself was draped over a couch, debating if she should call some of the people that'd left her messages yesterday back again.

Yeah, no one had told her those weren't intended for her.

For now, she had a 'Man vs Food' marathon on the TV, though it was mostly unwatched. She kept dozing off. The couch was just that comfy.

Ben was tired of staring at the four walls of his room, and had already spent a fairly unhealthy amount of time in the salle and in the gym working out some aggravation, so...common room.

He was flipping channels, looking for something that was exploding. He was currently cruising through the public access channels, so it could be a while.

Sookie was always a little worn out by events like the picnic, so when she was able, she'd stolen back to her room for a nap. Thanks to that, her internal clock was a little messed up, and she ended up hungry by evening when she awoke.

So, in the name of comfort food, since she knew that there'd be a lot of people missing home today, she went into the kitchen and started to work on some late-night chocolate-chip cookies. Not the most nutritional, but she had 'em out and was plunked in front of some brainless sitcom within an hour, and that was what mattered. Hopefully the smell might attract some of the people she'd missed at the picnic itself.

After her chat with Hurley, and coming to the conclusion there probably wasn't anything much going on for the holidays, what with hardly anyone being around... Angela took it upon herself to buy up large amounts of festive food (and drink) to supply whoever might be left around and found their way to the right common room.

It wasn't all home cooked and perfect, Angela was still an order-in sort of girl, but if it tasted alright was anyone really going to be picky?

Yes, the elf hat was completely voluntary and nothing the island had forced on her. She liked being festive, damn it!

Hurley Reyes was baking a cake. It was delicious, moist, and definitely not a lie.

Raven was still fairly floating from all the compliments and attention she had gotten last night, especially from Jono. She had discovered what the proverbial Cloud Nine was. Perhaps even Cloud Ten.

Right now she was curled up on a couch, more daydreaming than paying attention to what was on the TV, which seemed to involve something about lizards pretending to be people and stealing water and eating humans and no remake was going to top Jane Balder as Diana, thank you very much.

Since there were people watching scary movies in his common room, Hurley ventured down a floor and started baking cookies.

He'd cheated and was using dough out of a tube, but still. He didn't even have the TV on, leaving it to whoever came in to choose to do so.

After a week of vacation, Jaime felt like he needed to do something. And since he also wanted to be at least a little bit social, that meant the common room. And that meant cooking.

So there he was, slaving over a hot stove. Well, standing nearby and watching a big pot of chili cook. That was sort of like slaving. Except for the part where he kept stealing bites and frowning. "This is so not spicy enough," he complained to no one in particular.

He started rummaging around in the cupboards looking for something to remedy that. But so far all he'd found were corn chips. Which... well, those were good too.
[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com
This was so totally unfair.

Hurley was sitting on the couch, bowl of popcorn in his lap and remote in his hand. He had found an episode of Expose on.

And yet, even though he was technically single, he felt kinda guilty watching it.

So after a minute or two, he switched over to an episode of Lightning Bug, following that up with shoveling a handful of popcorn into his mouth.

She had flipped past Golden Oldies twice before actually leaving the channel on long enough to realize the women were all bitching each other out, having blunt discussions of their sex lives, and then eating cheesecake.

Wow. If she lived long enough to be a cranky retiree, she totally wanted that life.

She’d been feeling sort of triumphant for no apparent reason at all since the night before, but what she was making wasn’t M.O.T.s. No, they were just regular chocolate muffins, and the first batch was just about ready to be taken out of the oven.

Karla looked around and nodded in satisfaction. There was a big glittery banner that said "CONGRATULATIONS TAHIRI!" hung over one wall. She wasn't going to admit it, but playing the glue and glitter and paint had been a lot of fun. Though, with the residual glitter in her hair (and the occasional glittery hand print on the banner), someone might be able to tell.

There was one table completely devoted to ice cream (and wrapped in cold spells). The centerpiece was, of course, a giant ice cream cake with a frosted lightsaber on it. Karla couldn't make any guesses about how accurate it was, but there was a greyish hilt and a I was tempted to say red blue beam coming from the front. It was enough to get the point across, dammit. She'd had to explain to the Chilly Boulder guy what she meant by lightsaber anyway. Though he immediately knew who Ben and Tahiri were. The table wasn't entirely covered by ice cream, as Dinah had mentioned bringing some, too.

It's possible that there may be an ice cream shortage at Chilly Boulder tonight. Sorry.

In the kitchen, there was even more food; this time covered in warming spells. Mostly there were pizzas with a variety of toppings, but she'd also gotten some sides from most of the other restaurants in town. Someone wanted to have pizza with a side of lobster bisque and quesadillas? Totally not a problem. There were also a variety of drinks and, stashed away in the fridge, a few steaks and a chicken--raw, of course--for Blind Seer.

As far as she could tell, everything was done. And if not...well, they could cope. Now the only thing to do was wait for the guests to arrive.

...and try not to cut into the cake before they arrived. It did look good.

Sookie had spent part of the evening on the phone with her Gran and with Tara, trying to get either of them to come visit for Parents' Weekend. The result -- aside from promises that both of them would try to make it -- was a craving for something from home.

Which was brought her out to the common room to bake a pie. This served dual purposes:

a) It smelled great and would likely provide her with company as a result, and

b) Now she had something to eat while watching Yell, which was apparently from her time but she'd still never seen. So pie seemed like a good accompaniment to being curled up on the couch and staring wide-eyed at the screen. (It was scary, okay.)

After a lot of work (some involving a showerhead, don't ask, and no not dirty) throughout the day, Jaina had decided she had to get out of her room for a while. So she'd just gone to the common room, made herself a sandwich, and started reading a report on her datapad with the TV on for noise.

Somehow she hadn't figured out that doing this was bound to distract her, and this was why she was staring at an episode of "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant", looking seriously confused, datapad forgotten, and occasionally saying things aloud like "There is something wrong with you," and "What do you mean this is a series??"

Somehow, senior year, Angela had ended up with fewer classes than ever. She would never complain about that one. Ever. But it left her with tonnes of free time. Which she probably could've been filling with prepping her portfolio for art school, but instead was... not.

What? It was the first week of semester. It was allowed.

She'd had her lie in, actually got dressed, and was finally sorting out some lunch for herself (making sandwiches, because she really just couldn't mess that up), and watching (and, okay, humming along to) the weird music videos on whichever channel she'd flipped to. Just how much drugs were the people who came up with these things on?

Elena was bored. She was still plowing through paperwork -- Turks didn't back down from challenges, thanks -- but she was going to go crazy if she didn't get some air. So she was going to set up shop in the common room while she typed up reports on her laptop, and she'd find something insane to watch on TV.

... okay, this show about the family with 18 freaking kids, that was pretty insane. She could stare in horror inbetween files. How would you even come up with names, after about twelve? She wondered if the parents could honestly name each of the kids, in a pop quiz.

Well, they'd picked a good day for it, even if it was still sticky as anything out. For a party, it was worth putting up with a bit of humidity.

By late in the afternoon the cheerleaders had barbecues lit, all the traditional food was well on the way to being served and there were plenty of snacks and drinks around for anyone who didn't want to go for burgers and sausages.

As usual, there are lots of loungers around for anyone who wants to stretch out, blankets and cushions on the grass and picnic tables for anyone who would prefer a real table.

It wasn't that she was particularly eager to socialize, no.

It was more of the fact that Yei had been wanting to go out (and for longer than just an hour, honestly) and so Hinata had looked around the room she and Hoshi shared, and gave in to the whims of her cat.

Which she didn't do often, admittedly, but she wasn't bad at. It just wasn't all that fun for her. And, alright, it was a pretty basic meal of fried chicken and rice, but that was a lot more effort than she usually put into it and Ino knew it was mostly because she was rather bored and hoping vaguely that food would draw people out.

It was really weird, how everyone ever was, like, so sleepy. Because, seriously, she was just the same as usual. Weird. Ino flicked the TV on, setting it to a music channel, and sang along snatches of lyrics as she chopped up vegetables.

"When are you going to leave?" she asked.

Ben, not surprisingly to anyone who knew him, was hungry.

He'd managed to get the fire started without incident and was now cheerfully burning cooking some hot dogs and staring into the flames.

Meeting new people would be fun--that's why he'd put out extra food and had given the bugs some silent encouragement to bite people at a different fire--but Ben was hoping they'd come to him.

He glanced over at the nearby cabins hopefully, then made a face, dropped his completely charred hot dog into the fire, and tried again.

Ben was a terrible cook.

It had taken Alex all of ten minutes to pack and then unpack. Unpacking, in this instance, meant kicking his bag under his bed and leaving it there. Once that was done, he wandered down to the main campfire, a place he'd frequented during the previous trip to the cabins. Claiming a spot on the first night seemed like the right thing to do so he settled down, legs stretched out in front of him.

The clouds looked a little threatening but rain would only bother him if he lit a cigarette and had it go out. He'd just have to light another or something. Not like it hadn't happened before. For now, he'd take the warm, cloudy night and his last bit of relaxation before classes started again.

The TV was already on when she came into the Common Room, and Rose didn't change the channel from The Mountie Show quite yet.  The Mountie was cute, after all, and if he would just wise up and kiss his partner, maybe he'd relax a little.  But if he didn't, at least he looked really good in that red uniform.

She lounged comfortably on the couch, typing an email with half her attention and watching the Mounties with the other half.  Weeks without classes were seriously nice.
