Third Floor Common Room [evening]

Kaylee honestly didn't understand this whole Thanksgiving thing beyond 'there'll be lots of food.' It was fairly archaic in her time, after all, and it wasn't like she'd been formally educated in history.

She was trying to do some research, as best she could, but rather than do something intelligent like either asking someone who might know something more about the holiday or, you know, cracking a book, she'd found something on television.

She didn't know how something could be semi-homemade, and why that woman was so...terrifying, but for some reason, she couldn't look away. Well, mostly. She could look down at her lap to check that Popples wasn't getting ready to run away or anything, since she'd figured this was as good an opportunity as any to get her new pet out to visit places other than her room.

[I've been meaning to do this post for like three days, dude. open!]

A very confused and despondent Cal shuffled into the wrong common room and blinked at that TV.

"It's not on in this one, is it?" he asked.

"Rumor Gal," Cal answered. "I tried to watch it upstairs, but some other, stupider show was one."

One that only managed to hold his interest when that chick who kind of looked like Jaina with a scarier voice was on, which wasn't enough. He frowned at the cooking show on the TV; after what happened earlier, he was depending so hard on being able to just plug into mindless Rumor Gal and not think about it.

"And no, I don't. Do you?"

Chuck came in with Sweetie chillin' on his shoulder. He needed ice for his scotch.

"Hey Kaylee," Chuck said. "You're not watching Rumor Gal, are you?"

He hated that show.

Lion-o was only running to the common room to get something from the fridge, but he stopped dead in his tracks when he noticed what was on the television. "Why is that woman talking funny?" he asked.

Chuck smirked. "Yeah, I have a monkey. You have a...thing."

No, he didn't know what Popples was.

"Why is she so scary? She seems pretty annoying, but not scary," said Lion-o.

"There's plenty of room here for a monkey if you've got a well trained one," Chuck said. He leaned down to let Sweetie off of his shoulder and onto the couch. The monkey had been trained to be nice to girls. "His name is Sweetie."

Cal let out a little whimper at his lack of success, but, really, any distraction right now would be a welcome one, so he shuffled his feet over and took a seat in one of the chairs. He looked at the TV, frowning in concentration, but still not really able to focus on it.

"Maybe," he offered, "it's like a landscape, but instead of land, it's a table?"

Not that that seemed to help explain anything.

"Dude," Cal said, glancing at Chuck and gesturing toward his shoulder, "you've got a..." More gesturing.

He was just wondering if Chuck realized it.

[identity profile] rocksthescarf.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm aware," Chuck replied. What was with people here and thinking he wouldn't notice a monkey on his shoulder?

[identity profile] lordofthecats.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe she's really excited about her... What is that she just put in the oven?" asked Lion-o.

Sweetie sniffed at Kaylee's hand for a second and, after deciding she wasn't a threat, rubbed his wee face against it. Chuck smirked. Sweetie was a really well-trained monkey.

"A hedgehog, huh? Well, can't say I've never pet one of those before," Chuck said, reaching out to pet Popples hesitantly.

So now came the next important question.

"Is it...intentional?"

[identity profile] rocksthescarf.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Why would it be an accident?" he asked.

Firekeeper was bored and it was getting too cold for a furless wolf like herself to really enjoy running in the forests outside, and so she and Blind Seer wandered in to the common room.

There was a smile and a friendly nod for Kaylee- from Firekeeper at least. Blind Seer just leapt up onto the couch and curled up.

"What is?" she asked, tilting her head curiously at the television.
