The Deck - Saturday Afternoon

Chuck would be the first person to admit that he preferred winter weather infinitely more to summer weather, but that didn't mean he didn't enjoy the sudden bout of sun and warmth. He was heading back to New York tomorrow for break and he knew that it was going to be effing freezing there. So he was enjoying the nice weather while he could.

He was leaning back into one of the deck chairs wearing shorts and a button-down shirt. There was a book in his hand and a Screwdriver (the drink, not the tool) on the ground beside him.

[Open, yes]

Francine peeked her face up from the furry hood of the parka -- and just now thought to clutch it to her bikini-clad body. "What? Oh God, I'm not. I mean, I don't ever. You must think I'm such a..." A couple words suggested themselves, but she really didn't like any of them.

Francine groaned. "I don't know." Yes, she did. "Nothing good."

"Really?" Even Francine was distantly aware of how pathetic the hopeful tone in her voice was. Very distantly. "Even though I..." Dumbass, like that sentence could end anyplace good. "...was totally out of my mind?"

Actually, it ended better than she expected, all things considered.

She didn't say really? again, even if she might've thought it. She just sank to the nearest deckchair with a sigh, though a slightly relieved one. "My mother will be so proud."

Clearly, since there are things about my mother I have no idea of. Francine shuddered. "I wish. Last time something like that happened, my mom was in the audience."

"Well, not exactly like that!" Oh God, Francine, do you even listen to what comes out of your mouth? "I mean, I stayed on stage." Sadly.
