third floor common room - thursday afternoon - 12/25

Liir had stayed in his room most of yesterday but today, he remembered what he'd promised Hurley and thus he was making up a rather large Christmas meal for anyone who might not have gone home. Whether they were celebrating or not, Liir figured it would be nice for those still hanging around the singularly empty dorm building might enjoy a meal together.

As such, he'd done up a goose filled with stuffing, some very nice gravy, hand-mashed potatoes and plenty of other moddable goodies. It wasn't proper roast pfenix or anything, but it should be nice. There was also a pearlfruit pie in the oven, keeping warm.

He hoped someone at least came by or he would have a lot to repack and put in the icebox. Or he'd have extra food for Makejoy.

...thankfully, she'd learned very quickly that puppies should not be in the kitchen. At the moment, she was settled just outside of the kitchen flopped on the ground watching her Daddy.

Someone was making food! Which was better than her making it.

Angela was so there, and festively dressed up for the occasion. All the more fun. Even brought her own mistletoe. You just never know when the stuff will come into it's own.

"That smells amazing," she announced, a little redundantly.

He put out the last of it with a smile.

"You're welcome to anything you'd like. I did this up for anyone who'd be here to eat it."

A sideways glance went to Makejoy, who used those big brown eyes on him to great effect as he took one of the bits of chicken he'd carved and tossed it her way. The puppy dove and caught it in mid air before chowing down.

"You," he said as he turned back to Angela, "will not be required to catch it, obviously. You can just make up a plate."

Hurley came in, mostly following the smell.

"Wow," he said. "Dude, you are awesome."

He wiped his brow with the back of a hand and laughed.

"I'm bored," he said with a shake of his head as Makejoy toddled over to investigate Hurley. Liir smiled at the little black fluffy tail flopping back and forth.

"All right, perhaps not bored. We did training yesterday, but today I wanted to get into the kitchen and... might have gone a little overboard."

"Merry Christmas to everyone, wow," Hurley said.

"I appreciate that. Don't think I'd have anything like that skill," she said, grinning at Liir. "She, or he... adorable."

Angela all but bounced over to Hurley. With her mistletoe, obviously. "Happy Christmas!"

He laughed.

"Yes, I suppose," and he stepped out of the kitchen to give her a pat to the head.

"How was your holiday? Good, I should hope."

"She," he admitted as the puppy finished off the piece of chicken and tottered over to investigate New Person!

"Her name is Makejoy. She's very friendly and she knows how to sit. Mostly."

Sometimes she didn't stay because she was a puppy, but sit she'd gotten already pretty well.

"Would you like me to make you up a plate or you're welcome to do it for yourself."

Yei was an explorer and Mommy was busy playing with paper so it was really totally and completely not her fault that she'd wandered away from Mommy, right?

Right! And Mommy would surely find her at some point anyway. She always did.

Yei stuck her head into the common room, drawn by the smells, and mewed to get the attention of anyone who was paying attention. Because, to her, if they weren't paying attention then it was their loss for not getting time to spend with her.

The meow got Liir's attention, but it also got Makejoy's. The little black puppy made her way over to the little white kitten and went to sniff while Liir peered around trying to find where the kitten had skittered off to.

It was, Yei considered, whiskers going forward in curiosity, one thing to explore while Mommy was around and another thing entirely to do it while she was all alone and there was a black-not-a-cat coming towards her.

Yei's options were limited--dart for underneath the couch and stealthily observe, run away and not look back, or hold her ground and be brave.

...Yei, being incredibly herself, and she was, by her standards, very very brave--ran for under the couch. And peered out at the black-not-a-cat.

Makejoy followed to sniff under the couch, panting in a friendly sort of way as Liir wandered out of the kitchen.

"Er... hello? Kitty? Or someone who's been turned to a kitty? It's all right; she won't hurt you. I think she's just, er, curious."

He looked around for where the cat might have gone before noticing that Makejoy was sniffing at the couch. At that point, he knelt down and peered under the furniture.

"Oh dear," he said to no one, really, before pulling Makejoy back away from the couch and sending her over to the other side of the room with a pointed finger. He added a sit to the command and she sat, though there was really no telling how long that would last.

"Yei?" he asked, having seen the white fur from a slant of light.

"Come here, girl, come here... shhhh, she won't bother you..."

She licked her nose and considered he-who-brought-her-fish with bright blue eyes. Yei wasn't afraid, oh no, never, she was just... seeking a better spot to observe and investigate the black-not-a-cat from.

Not afraid.

Nonetheless, she padded over to him, still staying under the couch, and mewed indignantly, expressively. Traitor! Traitor! He smelled like the black-not-a-cat! What was he thinking? Treachery and betrayal!

A hand reached back, catching the satchel's strap and pulling it over before digging in. He had to use his other hand to open up the little packet of fish, but hopefully she wouldn't mind the peace--

"Makejoy, sit," he said with a turn of his head.

Then he held out a piece of fish for Yei.

She was not that easy to win over, Yei insisted, pretending to be disinterested by the fish even as her whiskers quivered and her eyes fixed on it.

"She won't bother you," he promised the kitten, a lifetime of talking to Animals and animals both quite convinced this would work.

"Come on, you know you like tuna."

He didn't want to have to explain to Hinata about why he'd terrified her kitten under the couch.

Makejoy, on the other hand, was still curious, especially now that there was New Smell, but Liir was careful to keep her behind him.

"Oh, you get yourself something," Angela said, crouching down to meet Makejoy. "I'll put something together in a minute."

In the meantime, "Aw, hi, you," she cooed at the puppy. "And happy holidays," she added to Liir.

Well. Yes. She did like tuna. The whole world ought to like tuna, in her opinion.

She inched forward--ever so carefully, because she was not that easy to win over, ever!--and pawed at the tuna. If he was nice, he'd give it to her and let her hide back under the couch so she could watch the black-not-a-cat for a bit.

Makejoy gave a soft little noise that wasn't quite a yip before sniffing at her curiously. Then her head went to move under Angela's hand.

"As you like," and Liir put together a small plate for himself, mostly to make sure it all tasted as it was supposed to.

"How long have you had her?" Angela asked, happy to pet the adorable puppy here.

He noted the reluctance before sighing and leaving her have the fish.

"I'll leave this up here," he said, putting the rest of the bag on the coffee table.

"And you can have it when you want to come out."

At which point he stood up and headed back over to make himself a plate. Makejoy gave one last look at the fluff beneath the couch, a sniff at the tuna, and followed her Daddy.

She was going to be mortally offended by his continued treachery when she finished the bit of tuna she had at the moment. But, mmmmm, tuna!

Yei finished the piece and, upon realizing that he'd left her but that she could still smell tuna, cautiously poked her head out from under the couch. Observation was all well and good, but tuna came first and she didn't see her observation target anywhere.

Wriggling out from under the couch, she sneaked over to the table and, with a kittenish sort of wobbly grace, made it on to the table.

And promptly tried to stick her head in the bag with the tuna.

Liir, who was making a plate for himself with Makejoy watching raptly, saw the movement out of the corner of his eye and grinned as he saw Yei out. Makejoy moved to go see, but Liir put his foot in front of her and she got the point.

"I got her for Lurlinemas the other day," he said.

"I don't know how old she is otherwise. She was a gift from my father."
