third floor common room - monday night - 01/05

As Liir had spent quite enough time in his room, he decided tonight not just to cook (anything but brownies) but to stay out in the common room to do his work.

As such, there was a pot of thick, hearty soup and a sliced loaf of dense beer bread left out for anyone to take while Liir, with his dog on the couch beside him, worked on something using one of the massive magic tomes he'd pulled from the shelf in his room.

Lion-o was starving, because whatever Snarf had made earlier really didn't smell that appetizing, and it was burnt. So he was very happy to find someone else in the common room with food.

"Oooh, could I get some soup, please?" he asked.

Liir looked up and nodded quickly.

"Of course. You're welcome to some as you like. As much as, in fact."

Makejoy stirred in her spot but didn't leave her daddy.

"Oh, thanks!" said Lion-o, beaming as he helped himself. "I wasn't sure if I was going to hold out until tomorrow morning when I could get some food at work. I'm Lion-o, by the way, and despite what you've heard, I don't eat people."

"...yes, and there's nothing improper about my broom. If and when I listen to the radio, it's usually just to know who's seen who," he admitted as he took a bite of his own soup.

"And my name is Liir. A pleasure to meet you."

Makejoy didn't leave but she watched Lion-O in the kitchen.

"This is Makejoy."

"Hi Liir. Hi Makejoy. What would be improper about a broom?" asked Lion-o as he took a seat. "I don't know how they get some of the stuff they say on the radio, unless the squirrels are just really, really out of it."

"There is mention of alcohol. And I know I wouldn't trust myself to boil an egg while intoxicated."

He fed a piece of ham to Makejoy.

"New? Or have we merely missed one another so far?"

The smell of food lead Tony upstairs. He helped himself to a bowl of soup and chunk of bread. "Is that your dog?" he asked Liir, sitting down on the other end of the couch.

"No, I've been here since last summer, but I don't get out a whole lot," said Lion-o. "I guess I was a little intimidated because all the kids were so much older. But I got a job at Café Fina and joined a club last semester, so I'm getting better at it."

Makejoy turned to sniff over at Tony and his bowl of soup, but she was good about not bothering him for food or begging. Mostly. She couldn't help being cute.

"Well, she has me, anyway. How have you been, Tony?"

"Nor do I, and I can certainly under--oh. You're at the Cafe Fina as well?"

He grinned.

"I work there Wednesdays. When, er, when I'm able to."

"Been okay," Tony said. "Andrew went home."

"Oh, neat! We're coworkers," said Lion-o, grinning.

Makejoy didn't mind that in the least since she'd never met Andrew, but Liir blinked.

"He did?"

And his heart dropped a little, partially for Tony and partially for Andrew. He knew Tony had cared for Andrew, could certainly understand why.

And he worried for Andrew. He knew from his own time with the other boy what kind of an experience was waiting for him in Sunnydale.

"I'm sorry."

The puppy sniffed a little more and attempted very hard to be cute at Tony.

"I suppose we are," he said with a nod of his head.

"Do you like to cook then? Or do you let the kitchen do the work?"

He wouldn't mind either way; he was just curious.

Tony couldn't help a smile at the puppy. He reached out tentatively, to see if the dog would let him pet it.

"It sucks," Tony admitted. "But he felt like he needed to do it. Anyway. What's up with you?"

"I don't know a whole lot about cooking, but the cheese grater has been very helpful and has taught me a lot about food," said Lion-o. "Plus I have Snarf with me at work, and he likes to cook."

She did a quick sniff before licking enthusiastically at the hand. She was very very friendly.

"I spent a few days stuck in my room. In a bad way. But I'm better now. And we have new people and new classes and... are they doing another play?"

"As far as I know," Tony said. "Auditions haven't started yet. You thinking of trying out?"

He shook his head quickly.

"Though I might offer to help, considering. There's probably someplace for someone talentless willing to haul or move things or take care of odds and ends.

"What about you? Would you ever try out? Or are you content with what you do?"

"Oh, no," Tony shook his head. "I don't like everyone watching me."

"Snarf?"

It sounded like a verb.

"Nor do I," he said with a nod.

"Have you been enjoying the job? I usually talk about all this with Amber..."

He blushed a little.

"I like it," Tony said. "Stage managing's a different side of it than acting, though." He hadn't missed the blush. "How are things going with Amber?"

"He's my companion!" explained Lion-o. "He's taken care of me since I was a small cub."

"We're, er, dating. That is."

He smiled.

"She wanted me."

And that sounded like such a special thing to him.
