Fourth Floor Common Room: Tuesday Afternoon

Worf had an assignment. One that he was not fond of.

However, orders were orders. Even if Cable wasn't technically in Starfleet, he was still his boss and Worf was going to face this challenge straight on.

Even if he did get a weird sense of deja vu whenever he saw Whoopi Goldberg.

[Worf is currently watching the view. This will change when Cal arrives. Open!]

After the weekend, Cal felt pretty bad about kicking Merlin out of the room, and so he was trying to let Merlin have the room as much to himself as possible by being out and doing other things.

Other things included going out and getting the first season of Rumor Gal on DVD. He wasn't even sure if he could figure out a DVD player, but he figured that would be a good thing for him to figure out. And, if any one asked, he'd constructed up the excuse that he'd simply heard that season one was better, and was curious, and, besides, what else the fuck did he have to do on a Tuesday? Nothing. Might as well kill brain cells and look at hot chicks.

There were no hot chicks on whatever it was Worf was watching when he stepped into the common room. Well, maybe one. He frowned at the TV. "What in God's name are you watching?"

Cal took a moment to stare at the screen and the squawking women and then shook his head. "Worf," he noted, "anything would be better than this."

Which meant that he had another excuse. Anyone came in and wondered what they were watching, he could simply say trust me, it's a hell of a lot better than what was one before. You want to find anything good on TV on a weekday afternoon, be my guest.

"You know how to work a DVD player?"

Worf was from the future; it should be a cinch for him.

Cal snorted a little, as inspected the DVD case to see how it opened, but, thankfully, he wasn't so primitive that simple design left him stumped. "I take it," he guessed, "that everything's voice activated where you're from?"

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well," Cal said, struggling a little with the DVD in the case, fingers trying to carefully pry it out from the outside edge, "these antiques don't even exist yet where I come from, so, maybe, when our powers combine, we can hit a middle road on it."

Oh! You press the little part in the center and that loosens it. Good to know. He handed the DVD over to Worf.

"It's that one show," Cal told him, "with the resplendent goddess with her warhorse legs, the guy who makes the really squinty face, and a severe lack of hot redheads."

Those were all the important parts right there.

Mmm, very nice... Cal was lost in a moment for a second, but shook his head and brought himself back to the common room.

"Yeah," he said. "But I think anything would be an improvement to that."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal considered the array of remote control available to them, and, to be on the safe side, brought them all over before flopping on the couch with Worf, a respectable, manly two-person-width distance between them. "I think I'd have to go with just straight up entertainment," he mused. "I can't imagine it having any deeper qualities embedded too deeply into it."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal liked Worf's version way better than anything else. He grinned, nodding. "Exactly. And no one knows who she is, remember? So she wields this power in utter anonymity. Now that's impressive."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal considered this carefully, tilting his head. "How so?" he wondered. "How is it dishonorable? She's only using the weapons at her disposal, really."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Blackmail is a weapon for people who don't have anything else in their arsenal," Cal argued lightly. "I mean, okay, let's say you give the brunette a sword and the blonde a mace. You think they'll even know what to do with them? Meanwhile, give them a rumor and a suspicion, and they can put together a real war."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Cal sighed a little, deciding that pushing the metaphor might be kind of pointless. But he did try at least a little more of a perspective, "There are lots of different wars, Worf, not just the kind on a battlefield."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Cal palm met his face, but he was laughing. "No, no, it's fine. You're good. They should get that man a prune juice."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Good," Cal nodded, making it so.

"So, lower class backgrounds make for natural fighters, huh?" Cal wasn't sure if he be amused by the irony or disappointed to be an example of the untruth in that.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Isn't fighting the difficulties that come with one's class another form of warfare?" Cal really couldn't let the metaphor go, although he realized a good part of it was probably due to the fact that who else was he going to talk to about stuff like this? "You know, class warfare."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think," Cal said, "it's on the same disc, you just have to do something with the remote to get to it."

Something that Cal was attempting, but only seemed to be able to keep going back to the main menu.

Then, he thought he got it, only to discover that he'd accidentally set it to Spanish.

"Damn it."

"And, what? Issues with class completely disappear by the 24th century, or something?"

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal pressed through a few more buttons. "Ah, there we go."

"Yeah, but," Cal offered, "just because there isn't money doesn't mean there can't still be classes. I mean, then it's just based on who has the most technology or philosophy instead of money, wouldn't it? Not unless you can evenly spread it throughout the entire galaxy, and that's Communism."

Or something.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, Cal couldn't argue that the shift in topic was a good one. "I don't know," he admitted. "I haven't seen any of this season. In the last season, there was a catfight, but it was highly disappointing, I have to say. A shoe was thrown, hair was pulled, a headband got lost..."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet, oddly? Worf still did. Go figure.

"Is combat everything with you?" he asked, amused.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-15 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, but...that's not all you are, is it?"

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-01-15 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal just looked at Worf for a moment, because, as far as he had gathered, the two words were practically synonymous, but he ended up nodding. "That's a start."
