The Gym, Wednesday afternoon

Dinah had spent the whole morning on-line with her science course (Helena's jacket was so hers now!) and decided to reward herself with a workout.

Eskrima, though, not just boxing. More music blasting through her ears - Jonathan Coulton, "Re: Your Brains", at the moment.

"Missed you yesterday," Triela said without preamble, leaning against the wall by the door. She didn't sound upset about it, more as if she was just making conversation.

"It was good," Triela smiled softly. "I was handwavily out of town most of last week, so it was nice to get back and see everyone again."

"Yes," Triela nodded the affirmative to both the spoken question and the unspoken one.

"So what is this adventure you went on without me?" she asked, voice teasing.

Triela laughed. "I haven't rappelled off a roof in months."

She shook her head. "Any particular occasion or reason, or just for the fun of it?"

"You know," Triela mused, "I haven't actually rappelled from any buildings in Fandom." Usually she was on business when she rappelled. "I should probably do something about that."

"We could." Triela grinned in a way that made that sound like 'we should'.

After a moment she added. "You know, you work out in here a lot."

"Does it help?" Triela asked curiously. "I mean, I do some endurance training, but the rest of it isn't really necessary for me."

Food Appreciation class always left Jen in severe danger of a massive guilt trip if she didn't work out afterward (but god, it was good).

Gear bag in hand and towel around her neck, she headed into the gym to see Dinah going at the bag, and leaned against the doorframe to watch for a minute or two.

"I don't want to break your rhythm," Jen assured her; still the police officer, she was evaluating Dinah's skill level and abilities with a careful eye. "I can wait, or go find the training dummy."

"Nice one," Jen said approvingly; she really ought to consider taking up something like this to keep in practice, since she so rarely ever got to use her Chronosabers for anything. "God, no, don't let me interrupt you. I hate it when people do it to me."

"Can I see those?" Jen asked as she dumped her stuff beside the bag. "I'm feeling like I need to mix up my routine a little bit."

Jen shook her head. "Every now and then I get a chance for some swordwork, but it's kind of rare." Also kind of overkill, but shh. "This looks like a good way to get that kind of muscle work in without the . . . special circumstances."

Jen laughed slightly. "I wouldn't say I know it, exactly. It's sort of complicated. Call it instinct, when the situation calls for it."

Besides, calling what she did with her Chronosabers "swordwork" was like slapping a hurried patch onto a torn pair of pants and calling it fine embroidery.

But again, shhh.
