The Gym - Tuesday morning

Tap shoes on, Amber set up her CD player and began to warm up. Her conversation with her ma was weird this morning. Amber just blurted out crap that she had no intention of saying and it was just freaking weird.

Getting out of her room worked, not to mention the work out she needed. Spent up restlessness can do that to a person so she was here in black yoga pants and a simple t-shirt, dancing acrorss the gym floor.

[The gym is open, of course.]

"I still have trouble believing you're so good at that sometimes," Triela said after a while from where she leaned against the wall watching.

"I don't know," Triela admitted. "I guess it's because you don't seem dedicated enough. I'm good at what I do because I practice almost all the time." And she had all those enhancements.

"But you're good at it," Triela pointed out. "Even though it's just for fun."

Not that Triela knew much about doing things just for fun.

"Does learning it when you're younger help?" Triela asked, a thoughtful frown settling onto her lips.

"Huh." Triela nodded thoughtfully. "I wonder what I was good at, then. Before the Agency."

"I don't know," Triela admitted. "The Agency picked me up in Amsterdam during a Europol raid on a human smuggling ring. They weren't able to backtrack my origins, and I don't remember anything back that far. I wouldn't even know about Amsterdam if they weren't so careless with personnel files."

"Don't worry about it." Triela waved a hand vaguely. "I know you didn't mean it in a bad way."

She grinned suddenly, "Besides, isn't a good thing for a girl to be mysterious?"

"Well, for what it's worth," Triela laughed, "I rather like you that way."

"Not at all. It makes for a nice change of pace. I mean, Claes isn't much of a talker."

"It doesn't bother me at all," Triela smiled in support. "I mean, as long as you're happy and don't abandon me all together." That last part was teasing.

"Besides it makes it easier to keep secrets from you."

...

She hadn't been planning on saying that.

"It's that serious?" Triela asked, half sad and half excited.

"Um... the kind that are complicated and hard to explain?" she hedged, sort of doubting that would work.

"Then you should do it." Obviously. Or obvious to Triela at least.

"That I wake up every morning crying?" Triela suggested. "Because I've managed to keep that from you so far, right?" It helped that it was completely silent crying. As long as she wiped her eyes quickly no one could tell.

"And why wouldn't he?" Triela, after all, thought Amber was a great roommate.

Then she sighed. "No one knows. Which is why I don't bring it up. It's one of the side-effects of the conditioning. The current theory is that we dream old memories." She shrugged. "But since we never remember our dreams, no one really knows."
