Cheerleading Practice, Wednesday After Classes

Hannibal no longer felt the need to spew everything single thing that popped into his head and, for that, he counted himself lucky. He thought about what he had said as he went about setting the gym up for cheerleading practice.

It hadn't been too bad, all things considered, but he hated feeling like he didn't have a choice in confessing feelings to someone. Too late for regrets now. At least she hadn't smacked him.

"We're not getting married!" he said, eyes widening.

"I know that! It was a joke!" Kaylee assured him.

"Okay. Okay." He took a breath. "Sorry. I mean, that's not to say...ever but not soon."

"Ned, I'm only sixteen. No marriage. No babies," she assured him, shaking her head. "Calm down. I just want you t'pay for a date with me in like a month."

"What if I don't have enough money?" he asked, honestly worried about that.

"...d'you really think you're gonna get in a bidding war?" she wondered. "I'm pretty sure I'd be cheap. I ain't a Companion."

"Well, you don't know that," he said. "A lot of people might want a date with you."

"The only one I can think of is Ben, an' he's got a girlfriend," she noted.

"Maybe there's a secret admirer," Ned suggested.

"Well, they can't have me," she noted, kissing his cheek.

"If they have more money than I do, they can!" he said. "I'll have to save."

"We'll have a free date," she decided. "Hmmmmmm. What could we do that's really fun an' don't cost nothin'?"

She tapped her chin, shooting him a flirty little look.

"I could show you how to bake a pie?" He knew what she was getting out, he was just being coy.

Re: Audience

"You'd have t'get ingredients," she pointed out.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"That's not a problem," he said. "I do that all the time."

Re: Audience

"But it wouldn't be free!" Kaylee replied, tsking.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't mind paying for things when I get to bake them," he said.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"But that ain't the point!" she replied, shaking her head.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"What is the point?" he asked.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Havin' a free date that don't cost nothin' 'cause you bought me like a Companion," Kaylee explained patiently.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"But I like to bake and I don't mind spending some money," he said, just ignoring the point now.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"An' I dunno how t'make pie," she added, joining him in the point ignoring.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't think of you as a Companion either," he said. "You'd just be Kaylee."

Re: Audience

[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I ain't glamorous like 'nara," she added. "I'd be a bad Companion. So that's good."

Re: Audience

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"But you're not a Companion, you're a mechanic and you're not Inara, you're Kaylee," he said.
