The salle, before classes
Luckily, Dinah's alarm had still gone off-- Black Canary had set it very conscientiously, in order to be up early to talk to the local government agencies. That was about the only lucky thing about this morning. Because she was supposed to be training with Arthur, first thing.
Dinah had too much to think about. So she was practicing the Way of the Weekend Warrior, and not thinking, whapping the practice dummy to death with her eskrima.

Another rep. Then another. Still not looking at him.
"Thanks."
Because of all people, she hadn't really thought Arthur would believe she took this seriously. Or would take it seriously too. It just looked so easy for him.
Another rep. She'd get this yet.

He moved around her to watch, searching for flaws in her method, of which there are several. "Even it out," he continued, "You're not cutting a roast."

"Once the bandage goes," Arthur said, tapping his shoulder once, "We'll be working on your defense."
He paced around her again, slowly.

"Got it."
She'd better get it, or he was really going to kick her ass.

Under her breath, she muttered, "The other guy had manners." Then did sped up the drill again.

Right. Technique first. Slower. Perfect, perfect, perfect. Or die trying. She had time.
Another three reps, starting to feel the burn in her muscles. "When did you start training?"
That other Dinah Lance, she started at nineteen. Maybe, starting earlier, she could be just as good... eventually.

Forget that. Just concentrate on catching up to Black Canary. Yes. And, and, she had her TK. Even if she didn't have the Canary Cry.
She sneaked another look at Arthur, wondering what was bugging him.

She came out of the stance, winced and went to return the sword to the rack. "Same time next week?"
Some of the bounce was back. Yup. Goals. That helped. "You okay?"
Just a check. Yup. Not that she wanted to talk about feelings. God, no.

Arthur also wasn't particularly inclined towards talking about feelings. Barring a few very specific people in very specific instances, and while he liked Dinah, she wasn't one of them.
"Same time. I won't take 'island oddness' as an excuse."

"Yeah, yeah. Next week!" And she'd practice every day, so she'd be better. Ha!
"See ya!"
