Joan was more than a little freaked out by the scary things attacking from the sky when she got to the gym and started setting up for cheer practice.

Days like these she kind of wished she had some supernatural ability. Of course, she had faith that God wouldn't let anything happen to her. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to harass her.

At any rate, there was cheesy 80s pop music blaring through the speakers and mats out so no one would get hurt.

One of those goddamn things had apparently taken issue with the way he was walking and had chucked a rock at his head during his walk over from town. Now, he had a bruise behind his stupid ear and a headache.

So, he was holding said spot and sitting on the mats, making half hearted attempts to stretch.

Joan glanced over and frowned. "You okay?"

"I got hit with a rock," he groused. "One of those flying bitc--things in the sky."

"You need some ice or something?" Joan offered, wincing a little.

"I need a freaking bat to hit them back with," he said, shaking his head. "No, thanks though. I'll get water all over the mats and that'd just cause more accidents."

He'd just have some payback later. He had a bat somewhere.

"You avoided those things?"

"So far, so good," Joan said. "Do you have any idea what they are?"

"Bitchy winged things?" he guessed, shrugging. "Not a clue, really. They're a first for me."

"At least they aren't the school mascot or anything," she said.

"I...didn't even think of that," he said and laughed. "Too busy dodging the random rocks and cursing."

She chuckled. "I've heard that gremlins are nasty, but I think these are way nastier."

"I've managed to avoid the gremlins but they seem to enjoy humiliation. These things seem to enjoy being aggressive," Hannibal said. "And throwing rocks. Freaking rocks. Of all things."

"That's just mean," Joan agreed. "Too bad we don't have a football team. We could steal their helmets to protect us."

"And who would protect them?" he asked, amused despite the ache in his head.

"They wouldn't need protecting," Joan teased. "They have hard heads."

"I used to play football and my head's not that hard," he said and rubbed his head.
