The Salle, Monday Morning
On Friday, Arthur had reached a decision. After the weekend, he wasn't in the best mood to follow through on it, but there were few reasons to let his mood interfere with what was, essentially, a duty of some kind.
The duty of survival. As Crown Prince, it was a real one.
Still, he thought, as he arrived in the salle, Dinah had best be grateful. And it was all tactics. His gut still twinged with the sting of clear betrayal, but his sense of morality was as confused on this subject as anything else ever was, and so he ignored it.

He made a guttural sort of noise in the back of his throat at the thought, and then shook his head and beat it out of the air once more. One good swing, this time. "How stupid is that? Gettin' used to people not dyin'? You can count how often some people have seen a real battle just by lookin' at their faces. They get scared, yoto. Someday, someone's gonna slip and not get up again."

He hadn't liked it a bit. He doubted even a long-time exposure to this place would help it any; it simply laid in his nature. "It's the students who fight," he said. He almost sounded questioning. Perhaps even more than that - he was worried.
Didn't like the odds at all.

No, they weren't good odds. Reno was convinced that so far, they'd just managed to somehow be really, really lucky.

"I see," he said. Then he slanted a look at Reno past his blade. The students were not of the island - most of them appeared to be like him. "Perhaps," he said, "engagements like last Wednesday's would fare even better without as much scattering."

Tactics? Real tactics, in a battle on Fandom Island?
Damn, that sounded almost too good to be true.

But it'd even up the odds a bit.

"Biggest weapon a man's got on the field is the person that's got his back," he noted, his free hand finding its way into his pocket as he finally managed to relax, his baton settling on his shoulder and staying there. "Until the harpies, I ain't worked with an actual partner since I left home. But it does make a difference. Some kinda group like that, I think I could handle gettin' behind."
Turks away from the Turks, in his head.

Reno sounded nothing like a knight, didn't look anything like one, either, had used magic like it was nothing; but he'd also been fierce like a knight, and brave, and this was just yet another of a long number of things Arthur would have to reconcile and fast.
"There should be more that feel that way," he said, mildly. With any luck. "There's no disadvantage in it."

"If you're really lookin' into settin' up somethin' like that here on Fandom, Arthur, let me know. I grad this year, I'll probably be headin' back to Gaia to help 'em pick up more pieces back there, but if I can leave knowin' Fandom's gettin' its shit together, maybe it won't be so hard."

Faith, and burdens, and duties. They held a familiar weight, but Arthur had to admit he felt bloody stupid and useless without them. He was a workaholic, lost in a strange land, and he was worried about odds when he didn't know the slightest bit of the law.
Which left only his gut feeling for the right thing, and now there was some of that faith.
"I think I will," he said. A momentary quip passed through his mind, but he was too thoughtful to pay it much lip service.

It was good to feel like maybe he was going to have a purpose around here, even during the downtime. He was swinging with a grin on his face, now.
