The Roof, Late Sunday Evening

Deciding that the evening was nice enough for an outdoor picnic, John had a blanket laid out on the roof decorated with turkey sandwiches, bags of Cheetos, and cans of terrible beer he'd smuggled up from his room. There was even a chunk of chocolate cake waiting next to the basket. This was his idea of a picnic, and he thought he'd done an okay job of gathering things and setting up.

Despite knowing in advance that Jaina intended to bid on and win his basket, John was still a little surprised by how she'd accomplished her goal.

And part of him still wondered what would have happened if she'd lost.

[John's there for the girl who won him, but the roof is open.]

Jaina got up to the roof after Fight Club, and she'd really kind of been looking forward to this. Considering she'd paid for it, she thought that was only right. "Am I late?" she greeted him.

"You've missed out on a full fifteen minutes of your purchased time," John replied from where he was relaxing on the blanket. "But I'm sure we can work out an extension if things go well."

"I didn't realize there was a time limit. I just heard 'lunch'," she said, walking over to take a seat on the blanket. "What do you mean, 'if'?"

"I was kidding," he clarified. "And this is less lunch, more dinner, so we're already bucking the system."

"I hope we don't get a cheerleader mob after us for this flagrant disrespect for the system," she said mock-seriously.

"Not with you involved," he decided. "I'm sure they all heard your threat."

"A Jedi tries to protect all life. I had to make sure no one was so stupid as to make me try and shorten theirs at all," she explained. "Just doing my duty."

"Well, then it was really very kind of you," he replied, with a look that said 'suuuuure.'

"Hey, I won. I'm happy with the outcome," she grinned.

"You are aware you can have a date with me anytime you want, right?" In fact, he generally encouraged this.

"Yeah. But normally you don't come with a picnic basket." Yeah, because that was the reason.

"You've got me there," he said. "If I'd realized you were in this for baskets I would've tried it sooner."

"I'm not. At least I don't think I am. But when the opportunity arises, sometimes you have to try something new," she said. "So what's all involved, anyway?"

"Just food, drinks, and my lively conversation," he informed her.

"I paid for conversation, too?" Jaina teased. "I feel like I got a freebie there."

"I could probably even provide some conversation starter questions and comments," he teased back.

Her eyes went wide in "surprise". "I'm intrigued. Let's hear one."

"Okay, so we've all got pet peeves, right?" John asked, checking to see if she knew what a pet peeve was before continuing. "You know, the little things that annoy you."

"I have... well, bigger annoyances usually, but yeah," she nodded.

"Really? What are yours?" John asked, the conversation starter having worked already. "The one I was gonna say is people who know other versions of me refusing to give me any details."

"I'd say that's a bigger annoyance," she considered. "I was going to say something like how it wouldn't hurt people to make sure they turned faucets completely off before leaving a room."

He rolled his eyes, "It was one time. I'd think light switches would be your pet peeve."

"The dripping bothers me when all it takes to prevent it is to turn a knob just a tiny bit more than you already did," she explained. "Why would light switches be my pet peeve?"

"Because I always make you turn them off," he reminded her, getting himself a sandwich to pick apart and eat.

"I can live with that," she shrugged, turning her attention to the food. "If that one bothered me I'd just make you go do it yourself."
