Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

The problem with a first period class, Claire reflected as she started a pot of coffee, was that once it was over you were too awake to go back to sleep but it was still too early to do much of anything else.

Once the coffee was done, she sat down at a table with a mug and a deck of tarot cards -- a birthday present from her Aunt Sarah. She fiddled with them idly, half laying out cards for a reading on herself but mostly just looking at the pictures on the deck. They were beautiful illustrations, anyhow.

She wasn't in a mood for TV, but she had the radio on and tuned to a classic rock station just for the background noise.

[OOC: Open common room, yep!]

"Unless I just eat them myself and have all that go to my waist or hips or something," he said and laughed. "At least they won't be wasted. Your classes going all right? I tend to only catch you during the club meetings."

"That is an option too," Leto replied with a smirk. "And you don't look like that is too much of a problem. I believe my classes are easy enough but I manage to keep myself busy."

"You sound like Kaylee," he said and snickered. "With the 'you eat all you want and it never shows' kind of deal. I think it's genetics or something."

He didn't really have anyone to ask.

"I spend a whole class eating things. Probably the easiest class I'll ever take. Unless there's a test. I've spent most of my time just eating in there."

"A class for eating? I assume you cook the food first or am I mistaken?" Leto raised an eyebrow.

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I don't but it is cooked," he said, nodding. "It's Professor Eriksen's class and we go over different types of food. Today, it was Mexican food."

"I see," Leto replied. "I know very little of Mexican food, or the place itself." Little meaning next to nothing.

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's just one lesson," he said. "But Mexican is more...spicy than other foods? I mean, other foods are spicy too but Mexican's spicy too."

Good explanation there, Ned. Really.

"We did pizza one week too."

It didn't give Leto a very clear picture, no, but he nodded slowly. "Is there any kind of food you don't like, Ned?"

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh." Ned had to think about it for a minute. "Sushi, I think. I like when things are cooked. But, I admit to trying like a bite once and not liking it so now I consider it all bad."

"Sushi? I don't believe I have tried that either," Leto replied. "My sister introduced me to pizza though. She has taken quite a liking to it."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sushi's raw fish," Ned explained. "So, uncooked and all. Some people love it. I...yeah. But pizza, I love that. Mostly because you can get all different kinds. It's a diverse food."

"Raw fish? I suppose I could try that. But yes, pizza was quite delicious." He smiled at Ned. "Although I must say the bakery goods of this time are even better."

"They're a favorite of mine too," Ned said. "Obviously. And there's so many types that you don't get bored making or trying them."

[Not a problem!]

"So, Ned, what do you do except for making pies?" While the pies were delicious there were only so much one could say on the topic. Leto had little experience with cooking and baking, and he had no wish to look into his memories for someone who had.

"I like to read when I can," Ned said thoughtfully. "And take my dog outside to run around and play. Him running and playing. I tend to just watch. Sometimes, I'll take walks when it's late. It's quiet that way. A lot easier to think."

"And what do you think about?" Leto asked.

[bedtime!]

"Stuff," he said a little vaguely. "The day. Kaylee. Stuff. Just a little bit of everything."

[Night!]

The questions were a little intrusive perhaps, but some things about Ned did not make sense to Leto. There must be more to him than pie making. He figured he would not get any further with this line of questions though. "Everything? Yes, I guess that covers a lot." He smiled at Ned.
