Third Floor Common Room - Late Thursday Morning

Contrary to popular belief, Chuck was not an idiot. At least he wasn't the type of idiot who would actually go out once he heard shit about zombies on the radio. No, he'd save that for the dumbasses here than fancied themselves heroes. He'd stay indoors and not get eaten, thank you very much. Call him selfish, a coward, whatever. He wasn't getting himself killed. Making him smarter than you.

Now he was proving his smarts by showing that he could survive on his own without calling in for food. He was proving this by making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich by himself. Yeah, bread, peanut butter, knife, jelly. The whole deal.

He still had time to cut off his hand so try not to get too excited.

[The common room is oh-so-open]

Romeo didn't often listen to the radio, but he made an exception Thursday mornings because, frankly, it was funny to hear Arthur bitch about everything and everyone. Which was why, on his day off, he was a little twitchy and wandering the dorms for signs of life.

Or unlife.

"Chuck," he said, nodding a greeting. "Did you hear radio today? It was all about zombies."

"I was half-hoping I'd had some strange waking dream," Romeo said, setting uneasily on the side of a chair. "We saw them on the field trip Monday. They must have followed us back somehow."

He tilted his head at Chuck. "You wouldn't fight to defend the castle?"

it was possible he didn't know Chuck all that well.

"I'm not going to go out and look for a fight," Romeo said, because he was neither superpowered nor, at that moment, suicidal. "I'm a good shot, though, and they aren't hard to kill. If they came here I would have to do something."

Joan most definitely did not fall into the category of people who fancied themselves heroes. And after hearing radio, she wandered down to the common room to see if anyone could tell her if it was true or some elaborate prank.

"Hey, Chuck."

"So far, so good," Joan said. "Are there actually zombies? Or was it the radio staff's idea of a bad joke?"

"It's the problem of different worlds," Romeo all but lectured. "Some of them are from worlds where staying alive, and keeping others alive, means killing fiends. It's like death is not death to them."

Something like the ghost of a smile passed over his face. "I'm not that type."

Arthur hadn't slept very well. (Honestly, it was a surprise he'd slept at all) His genetics managed to compensate, and so he didn't actually look as tired as he should have. Right now, his chief purpose was to see how many'd made it back alive - and if there were any among them he could snag for a fight if it was necessary (he was really hoping the local authorities would have it, but he sincerely doubt it).

Chuck didn't really fall into that category (at all, by his estimation), but the common room was the first logical place to take stock. "Chuck. Has there been any sign of zombies within the dorms?"

In case Chuck would know.

"Fabulous," Joan said, rolling her eyes and going to raid the fridge. "Guess I won't be leaving the dorms until that's all cleared up then."

Yeah, Arthur had held that idea. One of many reasons why the 'King' title had gone out the window. One day, he was going to corner Chuck about that.

Today wasn't it.

"Good," he said. "They've mainly been swarming the streets of town, by what I've been able to tell. Be careful where you tread."

"At least I'm in good company."

Well, if she disregarded Jess's warnings at least.

She pulled out some cheese and butter, found a loaf of bread and decided to make some grilled cheese.

Romeo eyed Chuck carefully. "Do you at least know how to shoot a gun?" he asked. "Just in case we run out of people who want to fight."

It seemed depressingly likely, as much as he believed the island was protected.

Add yet another notch to the list of reasons Arthur wasn't very impressed by Chuck.

"Well, many seem to be," he said, dryly. Arthur preferred back-up for his stupidity (but would still opt for the lone variety if no one was handy). He glanced past Chuck into the rest of the common room, looking for any faces. "The Lady Zoe will organise a concentrated effort soon enough. We'll have to keep our numbers up in case they're needed."

And yet he was still halfway naive enough to believe that if pressed, Chuck would take up arms anyway.

"Yeah, I'm sure someone here will be able to take care of it."

Someone who wasn't her.

"You want a grilled cheese?" she offered.
withoutverona: (romeo romeo!)

"And Verona is one long, slow, gang fight," Romeo answered, not bothering with the details. "I would teach you, if you want to learn."
