Just Outside the Main Gate, Friday Morning

He'd been assessing people resources for most of the previous day. Since there had yet to be word from Lady Zoe, Arthur took the opportunity today to scope out how much space there would be for a barricade - if one could even be feasible.

This brought him to the area just outside the gates, wearing full armor and backed by Merlin-the-idiot-sorcerer, his eyes shooting towards the road in front of them from time to time.

[[ open, especially to merlin, and zombie-ok as well! ]]

Tony paused in stuffing newspapers in cracks in the barricade and stood up. "I found about ten different rotting-corpse illusion spells and absolutely nothing about fighting zombies," he sighed. "Sorry. I don't think Arra ever dealt with zombies."

"Darnit. If they weren't rotting, we could use them as bait or distraction. But I bet she never worked in smell-o-vision, hunh?" Dinah asked, patting the newspaper into the cracks. "We keep trying to come up with ways to make it more impassable, but we just don't have the equipment."

"I don't know how long I could hold an illusion, anyway," Tony admitted. "New spells are always tricky."

"I'd guess they would be." She looked thoughtful, then grinned. "Ooo. You could soap down the other side, though? Maybe? Make it slick?"

Tony brightened a little. "I could do that," he said. "Think it'll help?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can't hurt. And soap's pretty flammable too, isn't it? You won't have to wet it down. That won't interfere with burning it if we have to. Those zombies are clumsy enough, and we don't have anything else to oil it up or slick it up with." Dinah grinned at him. "Ha!"

Tony had never tried to burn soap, so he didn't know about the flammable bit. The rest he was good with. He grinned back. "Maybe we can make it smooth out there. Increase the chance of slippage."

"Ooooo, even better! You should warn Arthur, though. And maybe leave a really narrow path, or something, for humans? A zig-zag one?" Dinah suggested.*

Tony hesitated. Arthur seemed pretty capable with this stuff and that was actually reassuring but it was Arthur. And magic. What if telling Arthur about his abilities meant Merlin couldn't hang out with him anymore? Which, okay, was not as bad as being eaten by zombies, but still. "I don't know if telling Arthur's a good idea," he said.

"Oh. Oh." Arthur had finally gotten fairly used to what she could do, but it was so limited, and he still wasn't totally comfortable with it. On the other hand, maybe he'd see a tactical flaw here aside from, well, magic. Dinah bit her lip, studying Tony. "It's up to you. Seriously."

Tony chewed his lip. "I don't know," he said, finally. "I'll check with Merlin." It was Merlin's secret he was protecting, after all. "We could suggest the slippery thing, at least. Leave off the bit about magic soap bubbles for now."

"Yeah," Dinah said in relief. "That'll work. He'll know if-- when it's a good time." She sighed, biting her lip and then shifting her weight. "I want a gun," she admitted. "Triela had explosive rounds on Tuesday. I can't just take one from the gun range, though. They belong to people."

"Do they work on these zombies?" Tony asked.

"They blew up like grenades. I don't know if I could handle something like that, but a shotgun, from not too far away-- that'd still take off something's head, I'd think. There's a gun place in town, they'd probably know, wouldn't they?" Dinah shook her head. "Maybe after we finish with this." She was not going to ask him to go with her. No. She didn't really want to go into town, she wasn't gonna ask someone else, someone she cared about, to go there too. But that left not-going as the only option, if Tahiri didn't get back soon.
