Wednesday After Classes in the Gym -- Cheerleading

Savannah had mats pulled out and tables set up with refreshments. When everyone was there she leaned against one of the tables.

"Okay, so this is the last official weekly practice for a few weeks. I figure we could use the break since there are a lot of activities and changes that are coming up with graduation and new students and all of that. I do think we should have a couple of events happen this summer for the students and to make sure that we keep a good profile in the minds of the residents. But those meetings can be called at a later time. For now, let's chill out and have fun on our last official practice today."

She may have sounded a lot more cheerful than she actually felt.

It was Brooke's last cheerleading practice as a senior. How did this happen? When? Who allowed it to end? She wanted names and addresses, and until she got them, she'd be looking a little pouty over here.

Eve was pouty as well. "This is so not allowed to end," she grumbled loud enough to be heard.

"Where'd time go?" Brooke wondered. "Who said this was okay?"

"I don't know, but I'd really like to have a few words with them."

"Didn't the school year just start?" Brooke whined. "Okay, I don't mean that I'd like to still be going through a the classes when I still have a final anyway, but cheerleading! It's been like my life for four years."

"I've only been doing it for a year, but still. The ending of this? Do not want," Eve said with a whine of her own. "This is fun, dammit! And I've made friends!" All right, not as many as she would've liked, but still.

"Yes! Thank you! And I mean, I don't think we get kicked out as soon as we graduate, but then people leave and it's not the same."

"I am staying around as long as they'll let me," Eve admitted. "They'll practically have to force me off the island."

"I don't know how long I'm staying yet," Brooke said. "Probably the first session. I don't want to leave yet, but I wouldn't exactly hate being able to spend part of the summer with my friends back home before they all go off to school."

"Well, true, but if you leave when you want, at least it can kinda feel like leaving this place is on your terms and not because of some stupid thing like having graduated."

Eve's logic was... interesting, sometimes.

"Could always live in the basement and bribe the squirrels not to tell," Brooke suggested.

"True," Eve mused. "All I'd have to do would be give them rum. Lots and lots of rum. Of course, then I'd be responsible for drunken squirrels for the next year."

"Yeah, but imagine how fun radio would be."

"You make an excellent point there," Eve said. "Hm..."

She might've been pondering this one a little too much.

"Last practise, little sis," said Chad, finding Brooke's pout so powerful that he even had a distinctive pout, too.

...If you looked close enough, anyway.

The pout grew more pronounced. "Nooooooooo," she protested.

Aww, Chad almost wanted to hug her for that.

And then he didn't really know what to say so he tried, "Okay" with a shrug and, "it isn't."

"...Did you just change it, just like that?" she asked.

"Um...."

Chad needed a moment.

"Well, it doesn't have to be, I guess, technically..."

Though it still kind of was.

"Thanks for trying," she said with a little smile. "Everything ending just sucks."

"Yeah, but...."

"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

No, Chad wasn't being deep here; he was just quoting Semisonic.

It was a catchy song, okay?

"Aww, I love that song," said Brooke, looking deeply touched anyway. Or maybe she was just all emotional anyway.
