Franklin Delano Roosevelt Campfire, Monday Evening

There was a proper firepit! Of course this meant Merlin was outdoors, getting the fire going. Yes, even doing it the normal way.

Because he was simply far too excited for things that made sense again! If only a little bit.

Not that he wasn't fond of indoor plumbing, of course...

"Come on then," Merlin grumbled, blowing on the tiny, tiny embers he'd somehow--against all odds--had encouraged to spark to life.

Jack was not a fan of the idea of camping, no. He might be from a hundred-odd years ago, but that didn't mean he liked things small and primitive. Give him a nice hotel with proper gaslights and servants to tidy things away, any day.

Still. The day of the move hadn't been all bad, especially considering a post yet to be put up, and he was in a pleasant enough mood as he roamed the campgrounds.

"Is it too damp to light more?" he asked the young man blowing on a bed of embers. Lighting a fire, clearly was a spectator sport.

Hurley went and plopped down out at the campfire. He was armed and ready for this.

Marshmallows, Hershey bars, and graham crackers.

"Dude, tonight we feast like kings."

Turtle, of course, had a firm belief in visiting everyone's else's campfire during the cabin bit; the whole point was to get out and talk to all sorts of people. There was quite a lot going on at the main fire, she noticed, and maybe she'd head over there in a little bit, but, for now? FDR it.

"Hey, how's it going?" she greeted everyone in general.

"I'm totally expecting to blow, like, an entire month's worth of pay on s'mores fixings," Hurley said. "These things are awesome."

"If it lights more that certainly would prove it's not too damp," Jack agreed, then started fussing about on the ground looking for more twigs. "A fire would be cheerful."

"...not one night," Hurley said. "Like, during the time out here in the cabins."

New kid! Turtle jumped on the chance to talk with him a little, searching through her very complex list of people met at the picnic to find his name since she was pretty sure...

"Hi," she gave him a little wave. "...Jack, right?"

"I don't have any matches, either," Jack said, with some sympathy. "Though the rain would make even those a bit useless."

Emma had barely shown up in time for her first class, had her class schedule and cabin assignment, and now was wandering around looking for amusement.

Lo. Amusement.

"Are we communing with nature, darling?" she drawled. "Or did we lose our contact?"

"Exactly," Jack said, a bit impressed she had it. His name had been chosen in part for its blandness, after all. "And you are the lovely Turtle."

"Heeeey. Merlin, right?"

It was the ears, kind of a dead give-away even if Turtle hadn't talked to him in forever.

"How's it going?"

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-05-11 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, thank you, head lexicon of information! Turtle smiled brightly back, in part because of her success in the guess and in part because it never hurt to be called lovely, even though it was pretty much a crock and Jack was probably just one of those kinds of guys.

"That's right!" she said. "How are you settling in? Is this your cabin?"

"I don't find them so bad. The ease makes up for the scent," said Jack, who had displayed a distinct lack of manners himself thus far. "And I am. My name is Jack Priest. It's a pleasure to meet you."

... there, etiquette located.

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-05-11 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I take it you've already tried matches?"
bitten_notshy: (innocent and mopey)

He was entirely one of those guys, but it had never hurt him.

"I seem to be settling in well enough," he said. "Though I haven't had any classes yet, and I imagine that will be the real test. And no, this isn't mine, I was just passing by. I'm in ... it has Quincy in the name, I know that much."

The cabin names meant exactly nothing to Jack.
