Benjamin Harrison Cabin Campfire - Late Saturday Evening

If you had asked her four days ago, Rose would never have guessed she'd be on some little island in Maryland tonight.  She should have been tired after a long series of days, but the cabin seemed too stuffy and hot, and she found herself outside at the campfire.

She surprised herself by managing to light a fire in the pit, and Rose sat just to the side of it, poking at the fire more to soothe her frustrations than actually help the fire.  Which became evident as the fire started to sputter and smoke into the night.

Rose paid no attention to that though, too busy glaring at the cabin or the sky to notice something silly like the actual campfire.

[OOC:  Campfire = open.]

Edmund was returning to his cabin from a walk through the woods when he came across Harrison's campfire. He thought about walking on and going to bed, but when the hairs on the back of his neck stood up and the word 'wolf' popped into his head, he quickly changed his mind. "Might I join you?" he asked politely as he approached.

Ed looked at the fire and gave a brief nod. He set down his gear and canteen and picked up a stick to handle the fire with. "I'm Edmund," he said as he adjusted the frame and added some more smaller fodder for the fire to use inside. "I don't know you."

"That would certainly explain it." He poked at the fire and it started to get larger, latching onto the food he'd given it. "Does the lady have a name?"

He was only partially successful at hiding his grin. When the fire was set, he took a seat a little around the fire from Rose. "Good to meet you too. I don't think we get late students very often. Did a portal drop you somewhere else by accident?"

"You are new. They normally cover all of this at the welcome picnic. Same conversations every time without fail." He was more talking to himself now. "Er, do you really want to know or do you want to find out about the aliens, magic and gremlins on your own?"

Marco half-stumbled to his cabin's campfire before he spotted the new girl. "Hi?"

"Both." Marco said, deciding and plopping down on the ground. "Marco."

"I've never had the conversation," Ed admitted. "I've been on the receiving end and I've overheard it several times at each of the picnics."

"What brings you to Fandom High Rose?" Marco asked, reminding himself not to stare at her chest.

"Almost a year. I can try to sum up the conversation in short form for you if you'd like?"

Edmund cleared his throat and thought carefully about what he was about to say. "Hi, how are you? You must be new. I'm Edmund. Where are you from? Oh, really, I've never heard of that. Have you heard about gremlins yet? They're small, reptilian and like to bite you and make you have hallucinations. Yes, this place is quite weird. It's a hub between all different sorts of universes and dimensions. I'm not joking. We have aliens and vampires and people who can do magic and classes aren't normal and every semester we end up fighting something or other that tries to ruin the island. How's your brain?" He took a breath. "That's generally it. I may have missed a detail or two."

"I don't know. I never really asked. They were before my time. Are you familiar with vampires then?"

[identity profile] once-a-traitor.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Narnia," Edmund replied. "No vampires there that I know of. Talking Beasts, dryads, mermaids and centaurs though. And fauns, can't forget the fauns."
