Main Campfire, Saturday Evening

He wasn't going to admit that it was boredom that drove him out of his alcove and to the main campfire. He wasn't bored. He was just...without anything to do. Boredom he could have solved by sleeping. Nothing to do meant he wanted something to do and thus, he took himself to the main campfire. Despite the warmth, he lit the fire anyway. If anything, he could light his cigarettes on it.

Though, even he was intelligent enough to realize that was a really dumb idea and would only be tried if he got himself drunk. The snag in that idea was that he had no alcohol with him. Sad, really. He could have done with a nice bender.

Instead, he was just going to lay against a log and smoke for awhile. If he were some deep poet type, he'd call it stargazing. Since he wasn't that type, he was calling it relaxation. It worked for him.

[i declare this campfire open!]

Jennifer waved at the girl she didn't know.

"Hi," she said.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy looked the girl over curiously a moment, and nodded a sort of greeting. "Alright." It served as a greeting, and a vague sort of question at the same time.

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm Jennifer," she said. "Did I see you on the bus in during the first day?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy nodded after a moment. "Probably," she repleid.

"I wasn't at my most awake then, so..." She hadn't really recognised that Jennifer was another one of them. "I'm Effy."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's a nice name," Jennifer said. "Is it short for something?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's less shit than Elizabeth," Effy said, shrugging. "Which is what it's short for. Never really been a fan of it."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Jennifer said. "I'm a Jen girl, myself. I don't really like 'Jenny'. But 'Effy', that's... it's unique."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like to think I'm a little unique." Oh, she was certainly that. She smirked a little at Jennifer. "Life would be really dull if I wan't."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," Jennifer said. "Contributing to the world in your own way, that's... life, you know?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
"So, what's your contribution?" Effy asked after a moment, cocking her head curiously.

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm going to be a lawyer," Jennifer said.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Another one. Huh. "Seems to be a popular choice," Effy said after a moment. Not that she could see why.

"Got a reason?" she asked.

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't like seeing injustice," Jennifer said, sort of side-stepping her real reasons.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"One of those self-sacrificing types," she figured. "That's sweet."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"All I have to give is myself," Jennifer said. "Might as well do my best."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
That... was kind of sickeningly nice and exceptionally clichéd, in Effy's opinion, and she arched skepticaal eyebrows.

"And you're for real?"

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm for real," Jennifer said. "I figure, I can make up for people who are more hesitant."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Think you'll be making up for a lotta people," Effy told her. "Good luck with that."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," Jennifer said. "I'll need all the luck I can get."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't think you can do it without?" Effy asked. Luck wasn't really something she believed in. Saying it was more a habit engrained from other people.

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I'll be able to get there," Jennifer said. "But luck never hurt."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Never found it does much good, either," Effy said, shrugging.

Such a little ray of sunshine.

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"That's some pretty rough stuff you're saying," Jennifer said. "I'm guessing you've had pretty rotten luck?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Or, Effy was just a natural pessimist.

Possibly a little of both.

She shrugged. "It's just the truth. Nothing more."

[identity profile] not-jaded-yet.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, here's hoping things turn out better for you," Jennifer said.
