The Range [Sunday around noon]

Triela was going about her normal routine. That meant a run around the island followed by some time at the range. She would most certainly deny that anything had upset her, even if she was running through more ammunition that she usually would on any given day.

The rhythmic pounding of the shotgun against her shoulder was quite calming, really. And there was a certain pride to be taken in the consistently excellent groups she was shooting.

Leda nodded, agreeing. Then, carefully, she chambered a round.

"Once you've done that, assuming the safety is off, it'll fire when you pull the trigger. So when you've chambered a round the gun is live."

"Right." Leda nodded confidently, though her voice may have shook just a little. She was careful to A) not pull the trigger, and B) not point the gun at anyone.

Well except the target.

Triela nodded in approval. "Okay. Now, whenever you're ready squeeze the trigger gently. You don't want to jerk on it, just apply steady pressure."

"Right." Leda forced her hands to remain steady. This was not Bordertown, the gun would work the way it was supposed to. She even remembered to be prepared for the noise. Not the kick however. The bullet never even hit the target. "Woah!"

It took a moment for Triela to ensure that any amusement wouldn't be audible in her voice. "Now try it again. You know what to expect."

Leda swallowed, and nodded. "Right." She held herself more steady this time, and the shot hit the target, but if it'd been a real person, it only would have clipped their ear.

"If you've never shot a gun before then the first few times you try it you don't even worry about aiming. You need to understand how the gun feels before you do anything else."

"Like the physical feeling of holding it? Or something slightly more esoteric?"

Triela laughed. "Nothing magical. Just getting used to the weight and the recoil and the rest of it."

Leda nodded. "How long have you been using them?"

"As long as I can remember," Triela answered with a casual shrug. "So... four or five years now, I guess."

Leda raised a brow. "You can't remember the first half of your life? Huh. Neither can I." That was mostly due to her not wanting to and chemical assistance.

"Nothing before the Agency brought me in." Triela snorted in amusement, "They have some very efficient memory suppressants."

"Okay that sounds vaguely sinister."

"A lot of people say that, but it's not so bad, really. From what I've seen in my file I probably wouldn't want to remember anyway." And all the other Conditioning meant she couldn't mind if she wanted to.

"I hear that." Leda shrugged. "I'm not all that keen on my past either."

"How come you don't remember, anyway?" Triela asked. She didn't run into many (any, really) people who were in a similar position.

Leda shifted uncomfortably. "Dunno. I kinda...don't want to. You know?"

"Fair enough," Triela shrugged. "I think everyone's got at least a few things they'd rather not remember." She smirked. "Some more than a few."

You'd think that with everything at Fandom Leda would be less uncomfortable with her weird past. You'd be wrong. "If only they could be as succesful as we are."
