The Garden, Friday Afternoon
The slumber party had worked. Karla felt much calmer now, a little less frightened. Even expecting it, her sudden vulnerability had knocked her on her ass, metaphorically speaking. But, to continue the metaphor further last night's gathering had steadied her on her feet and she felt that she might be able to handle a trip to the garden without freaking out too badly.
Which, of course, turned out to be a horrific mistake, as Karla discovered when she got attacked by the first goldfish-spewing attack alligator. Calling in her nastiest hunting knife, she was able to savage it enough to make it go elsewhere for its dinner. Unfortunately, the commotion from that fight was enough to draw in several of its friends. Within seconds Karla was surrounded, and her Sapphire shield was quickly losing power.
She totally should have paid more attention in class yesterday.
Hell's fire, Mother Night and may the Darkness be merciful. "HELP!!!" she screamed.
[For the pointy-eared one. Possibly others. ]

"Hey!" she shouted. "Get away from her!" The geas her foster parents had placed on her did not apply to these situations, and so she was able to call up a ball of mystical energy into each hand. These she flung at the...were those really alligators?
The twin blasts gave Karla an escape route.

"Don't forget to wash that wound." she said, in between blasts.

Karla didn't handle defenselessness well. She was a witch, not some helpless landen. And being forced to sit out of the very first battle was really pissing her off.
She might have said more, but the incoming goldfish had her ducking behind Leda, or, perhaps more accurately, the shield. "I hate being without Craft," she muttered, stabbing one of the flopping fish that had bounced off the shield and out of the way of the energy blasts. "To your left!"

"Shit. Not trying that one again anytime soon."

She stabbed at another goldfish. "Think we can make a break for it back to the dorms?"

Karla grabbed for Leda's hand, and, with a slight cry, dragged her up on a solid plank of air. "Follow me!" she said, running up the air as if it were a small set of stairs. About two feet off the ground, she began running--well, limping was a little more accurate--straight ahead for the doors. "Watch...out...for...goldfish," she gasped.

Grumpy witch is grumpy. Damsel in distress didn't suit Karla's temperment well.
Though she was appreciative of the rescue.
