Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"The fire drill last week had a good premise," Arthur began, as soon as everyone had gathered. Even if he'd disagreed with the execution of it. "We'll continue mapping out the island today, although our current task is far more simple. In the event of a sudden attack, we must be aware of the easiest and quickest trails leading to a gathering point or a way of getting off the island. When the alligators invaded, many of us met up at the park - that's one location. There are only two ways off the island: either by boat from the docks, or by causeway. I'd like you all to go to one of these three locations by use of the route that seems fastest to you. Then return to us, and we'll compare exit strategies."

Leto had managed to acquire copies of a map of the island. "These might be helpful when you decide on a route, and will enable you to communicate your choice with precision to everyone else." He held the maps up, and offered everyone to take one.

He nodded at Leto once, then turned back to those gathered. "In case of another invasion, we should meet in the park if the threat is dispersed, or at the gates when it seems to be more cohesive. That way, we'll be able to coordinate our strategy accordingly." He nodded at ~~shamelessly modded~~ Zack as well, and let the exercise commence.

Jon grabbed a bottle as well and nodded. "Lead the way. It would probably be wrong to yell something like, 'the squirrels are revolting' as we run through the shops and stuff, right?"

Dinah snorted, and said, "Maybe not so much wrong as likely to get us mentioned as crazy people on the Radio." She grinned. "So let's see if we get the chance." She hit the timer on her watch and yelled, "Go!" Then took off running for the front gate, feet pounding across the grass to the pavement, veering down Loon Drive as soon as she was off the school grounds.

Dinah was fast and Jon had to sprint a bit to catch up. As soon as the junkyard came into sight, he turned down Minotaur and started taking note as to which shops would be best to ~~terrorize~~ go through.

Chilly Boulder was Dinah's fave for that. As Black Swan (http://i34.tinypic.com/r2koeb.jpg) and the Radio Station came into sight, she changed her mind and called, "Turn here!" running toward the Boards. Jon was keeping up just fine; good to know if they had to do this for real.

Guilty as Charged would be on Jon's list, but it was on the other side of the island.

And it was a good thing he was used to sudden changes in orders being made by crazy blondes, otherwise he might have tripped and fallen on his face.

Dinah grinned and swung off a lamp-post as she cornered again once they were past Ching Tai-- mmm, Szechuan-- and loped down Unicorn toward Apocalypse, putting on speed as the Causeway came into view. They so needed to cut through the Perk on the way back. "Faster!"

"Oh, that is so cheating," Jon muttered as he watched Dinah's little maneuver. He was starting to wish he could get a hold of Thor and weasel some super powers out of the little punk.

"Faster?" he asked, even as he started sprinting again. He needed to start running more in the mornings.

"Almost there!" Dinah caroled, pouring it on as they hit Apocalypse and turned toward the Causeway. "We can drop when we hit the bridge!"

It's a good thing Dinah couldn't hear what Jon was mumbling. He put up one last burst of speed and didn't stop until after they had passed Caritas and hit the causeway.

He dropped down on the ground, panting and looked at Dinah. "Next time, there had better be aliens after us. Little aliens with really big guns."

Dinah snickered, and flopped down on the ground next to him. "Not big aliens with little guns? No? Are they still Ken-doll aliens?"

"Yes. Because otherwise everyone would be too busy laughing at them. And little ones are easier to clean up after. The big ones just won't go into the trash cans."

He was joking. Maybe. Hopefully.

Dinah remembered the ones they'd dealt with the week before the last session started, and said, "Well, it's less of a problem if they clean up after themselves," a bit more soberly than she'd intended.

Jon blinked at the sudden change in tone and shook his head. "I'm not going to ask, because we need to plan the way back and tarnish the reputations of the squirrels."

"True!" Dinah said, pointing at him, and deciding to push that memory aside for now. "Okay, maybe the back alley behind Caritas and the police station, after we get through the Perk?"

He grinned and nodded. This was going to be fun and he didn't want to be responsible for making the event a downer for her.

"Yep. Then through Luke's and across Unicorn?"

"Cool! Oh, think we could leap the fence around the school?" Dinah's eyes narrowed in thought. "That'd cut our time too." She took several big gulps of her water, trying to see less obvious shortcuts.

He laughed. "Oh, that would be cool. Should we go through one of the shots across from Luke's before going through the ice cream place?" And maybe get some ice cream while they were at it.

Dinah twisted her bottle shut, and got to her feet, nodding. "Cool. This way, we'll know what we can do if we just have to run it with people, and the fastest way to get back there on our own." She shook out a foot and raised a teasing eyebrow at him. "Ready to go?"

"Oh please, I'm always ready," he joked as he stood up. He looked around and grinned. "Go!" he said just as he took off running.

"Hey! That's my trick!" Dinah laughed as she rushed to catch up, ducking down the alley after Jon. Dodging around dumpsters, leaping over storage crates, they zoomed past the back doors of the stores and businesses, heading toward a chain-link fence. Dinah hit it halfway up, climbed, then flipped over it, then dropped to her feet to keep going. Faster. Faster!

Jon cheated at the fence, hoping on top of one of the dumpsters to vault over the fence. She was ahead of him as they got to The Perk. It was kind of fun scaring the crap out of the staff as they ran in through the back door.

Dinah was giggling again as they zoomed out the front doors past the clerks and customers, turning to head toward the school, so Jon had room to catch up as she got her breath back.

"Ice creeeeam!" she called out as Chilly Boulder got within reach, and she slammed open the back door.

"Save the ice cream!" Jon called back as he raced in after her. He slid over the counter and raced around the tables to the front door and out into the street. From there, it was a straight shot to the fence, and a ~~handwavingly handy~~ tree for at least one of them to climb to get over it.

Dinah put on a burst of speed, and leaped for one branch of tree, and swung herself upward, then leapt to the top of the wall. "Yes!" And jumped down, rolling to absorb the impact, and then up and running for the gathering place in back of the dorms. She didn't look back to see where Jon was. Al... most... there!

Jon stopped long enough to gape for a second and then just climbed the tree and jumped over the fence. And then he ran for all he was worth just to stay within a few feet of Dinah.

He reached the finish and dropped to the ground, hard, face down and sprawled in the grass.

"I need to up my work outs," he said to the ground.
