"The fire drill last week had a good premise," Arthur began, as soon as everyone had gathered. Even if he'd disagreed with the execution of it. "We'll continue mapping out the island today, although our current task is far more simple. In the event of a sudden attack, we must be aware of the easiest and quickest trails leading to a gathering point or a way of getting off the island. When the alligators invaded, many of us met up at the park - that's one location. There are only two ways off the island: either by boat from the docks, or by causeway. I'd like you all to go to one of these three locations by use of the route that seems fastest to you. Then return to us, and we'll compare exit strategies."

Leto had managed to acquire copies of a map of the island. "These might be helpful when you decide on a route, and will enable you to communicate your choice with precision to everyone else." He held the maps up, and offered everyone to take one.

He nodded at Leto once, then turned back to those gathered. "In case of another invasion, we should meet in the park if the threat is dispersed, or at the gates when it seems to be more cohesive. That way, we'll be able to coordinate our strategy accordingly." He nodded at ~~shamelessly modded~~ Zack as well, and let the exercise commence.

"Have any of them joined up yet?" Merlin asked, keeping pace with more practice at this than really necessary.

"They stood with us during the zombie invasion," Arthur reminded him, "I think I've seen one of them about at times." The one with the flying unicorn. FLYING. UNICORN. "She had a flying unicorn."

There we go.

Merlin did very well not to react too much.

"...I think this place may be mad."

It took a FLYING UNICORN to get that across? Arthur shot him a look. "No, really, Merlin," he said, "And all this time, I thought it was as sane as the butcher's daughter."

Merlin gritted his teeth for a moment before recovering.

"It happens from time to time, my lord."

"You've found any sanity in this place at all?"

"If you look for it."

"You're very optimistic," he poitned out, as they moved past the gates.

"I rather think I have to be," Merlin replied, keeping pace with him.

"So where have you found sanity?" Arthur asked, and immediately regretted it, as he was fairly sure the answer started with an f and ended in cookies.

"Lady Ghanima's lessons," Merlin replied, looking at the gates for a moment. "The friends I have made here."

"Lady Ghanima. Of course." The Uther in him made it that he didn't trust her an inch, but he said nothing about it as he walked. "How are your studies coming along? Had any luck with them?"

"We've started on herbal work for the summer," Merlin said brightly.

"Picking up your studies from Gaius?"

Yes, he'd decided to have a friendly conversation in the middle of a dash for the causeway. Arthur was a special, special man.

"I need to keep up my supplies somehow," Merlin pointed out.

"And your lessons."

"And my lessons."

He nodded once, and took a corner. "That's good."

"I was thinking about asking if the clinic needed an apprentice," Merlin finally said, keeping pace at Arthur's side.

"You should see Physician Martha about that," Arthur judged. Because she was Good People. Hush. "They may even need your vaguely skilled hands."

There was an insult in there. Really.

"I wouldn't mind learning a bit of their medicine," Merlin replied dryly. ~~And have a Doctor Who reunion~~.

"Don't go near any coffee," Arthur returned, dryly. "Or anything else they might offer you. I don't know about what they pass off as medicine, but what they pass off as beverages..."

That got a laugh. "I'll stick with tea, thank you."

He grinned back for all of a split second. "Probably sensible," he agreed.

"There are herbal types at the Perk," Merlin added quickly. "Lady Ghanima gave me a few."
