The Salle, Wednesday evening

Zayne frequently worked on his Force skills. He less frequently worked on his lightsaber skills. And he almost never worked on defense against blasters. But Tahiri handwavily was letting him borrow her remote, so he was looking to rectify that tonight.

Zayne set up in the salle, ignited his lightsaber, and turned the remote on. Zayne realized very quickly that he wasn't half bad at deflecting blasts (albeit completely wildly). Unfortunately, this meant that he was only slightly better than half good at deflecting blasts, so there was a lot of mild cursing about how much it stung with he got hit.

[OOC: Open as a place filled with swords tends to be. Spectate, heckle, practice, whatever!]

Dinah was just going to go in and practice a bit with the gaderiffii, maybe the staff, and then had to stop and watch Zayne when she walked in. He wasn't as fluid as Ben or Arthur, but still-- way better than her.

She waited until there was a little break in the action to yell, "Go, Zayne!"

Dinah winced at the last sting and took a few steps forward, swinging the gaderiffii from one hand. "I've seen Tahiri face off with those before. Ouch. I didn't meant to distract you."

"So it learns as it goes?" Dinah asked, leaning forward to watch, but careful to stay out of the droid's line of sight. "That's cool." She fidgeted a little, and said, "When you're not dodging lazer bolts or whatever, I think I owe you a couple apologies."

"Wellll, the first day we met? Before I knew what this place was like? I thought you were a cultist," Dinah said, biting her lip. "Which, I should've known better, or listened more closely. Something, anyway. I don't think I said that to anyone, but still." She winced. "The other thing's more recent, though."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Which made Dinah feel worse about the other thing, but... well. At least she felt like she could admit it now. "And I drew on you with Sharpie lat week when you were sleeping in the Common Room a week or so ago." She winced. "Really sorry about that."

"The 'kiss me'." Dinah put her hands to her face, fidgeting. "Um. I was kind of hyper on hormones, and, well... you looked really cute asleep like that, and. It seemed like a good idea at the time?" And in retrospect, wince-inducing. "Because kissing you while you were asleep seemed like a bad idea, so..."

"Seriously?" Dinah said in relief, taking a deep breath. "Thank you! I really appreciate that. I owe you cookies, or, I don't know, one silly gremlin-bite incident?" She grinned at him, feeling better. "You got in deep last week too?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah turned pink. "You did better than I did. Way. And yay! I'm glad the girl you kissed was okay with it." She had to ask, "How did you do it? Without more incidents?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah chortled, than slapped a hand over her mouth, eyes still crinkling up. "Sorry? It's just, I kept flirting or being flirted with, and if there had been nakedness, saying 'I will keep my emotions in check', that would not have worked. It would've gone somewhere evil, I know it." She grinned at him. "So go you, being a good Jedi! And not, you know. Giving in. Giving up. Whatever."

"There is no passion, there is serenity," Dinah tried it. A pause. An expression of extreme ruefulness.

"Maybe it works if you're a Jedi?" she offered.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, no," Dinah allowed. "But not so much of the serenity either. That's not exactly a default state with me. And the passion thing is really easy, if I think about it."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? Hunh." Dinah thought about that, and asked, "You get to feel passion sometimes, don't you? I mean, passion for helping people, or, um, light sabers? Just not when the timing is bad, right?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Balance," Dinah guessed. "Okay. Yeah, Tahiri's mentioned the Dark Side, and she said they still don't have it all figured out in her time." She grinned. "And clothes are good! Who was it? If that's not too nosy. You don't have to say."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Sookie, Sookie... Nooo, I don't think I do. No classes with her that I remember, anyway. Although I think I've heard her name on the Radio a couple times." She smiled. "And yeah, I kissed someone in a Common Room two. Um. Two someones. Turtle and George. Kinda glad the presence of other people made it impossible to go further, but it was fun while it lasted."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Which I totally do! I mentioned the possibility of cookies, right?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"All the more reason to get you something when you don't expect it, then," Dinah said, twirling her weapon with a grin. "A nice surprise to balance a weird one." She shrugged. "I mean, you already got the ink off your face, so..."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Um. Wellll..." Dinah turned bright red, and gave him an eep-face. "When you were awake, I probably would've said I was just obeying instructions?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Remembering waht Tony said, but also not sure where Zayne stood with Sookie, Dinah teased, "I could always do it now?" Then grinned.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Which was... a yes? Oh! "Okay," Dinah squeaked, frozen for a moment, then took a breath, and a moment to raise her shields, and then grinned, leaning forward, hoping he wasn't going to laugh at the last second.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
And since Dinah wasn't a Jedi, she didn't have to use a mantra either.

It was soft and short and sweet, and in some odd way took a lot less courage than she'd thought it would.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah ducked her head, speechless for a second, then smiled at Zayne, warm and happy. "Um, no. Guess not?" Although she was going to remember him, come time for mistletoe and other excuses. "Thanks, Zayne. For being so cool about this."
