Alex hadn't hung around the brunch too long. Just long enough to get some free food and coffee in him before making his way back towards the dorms. He'd contemplated going back to his room and just spending the rest of the day there being a bum but the weather was warm (but not overly hot) and Alex couldn't resist sitting out on the deck for awhile. He'd found himself liking this particular for the quiet and the view. It wasn't something he got to do that often, back home. Too much time spent doing other things that he wasn't going to dwell on. He'd had a nice weekend and he didn't want to go there.

Alex took a seat, kicked his feet up and opened a bottle of water (just water) that he'd snagged from the brunch. Considering he didn't have to go to classes tomorrow, Alex felt that the complete wasting of time by sitting around doing nothing (while still being interesting, thank you) was deserved.

"That's my way of telling you that if I'm so technologically advanced that I can go swimming," Valentine said, because it wasn't like she was going to just say it, "then the rest of the water would be kind of superfluous."

"And what if I just want to dump the water on you?" he asked, one corner of his mouth lifting into a smile. "Maybe I think water suits you."

Valentine snorted a little. "I guess everyone's got their quirks. I'll have to remember that next time it rains."

"What, you'd come find me after getting stuck in a rainstorm?" Alex asked, smirking. "Or you'd just walk around more confidently?"

"Let's go with 'walk around more confidently and hope chance placed me in your path,'" Valentine offered with a grin.

"I'm good at being underfoot when I need to be," he said and thought of capping the bottle before offering it to her. "Retaliation?"

Valentine grinned a little, looking at the bottle before arch an eyebrow at Alex. Her first inclination was to refuse the offer and save her retaliation for a rainy day, but, really, the retaliation on a few splashes of water were hardly worth holding on to.

She reached for the bottle and took it, giving it just enough of a flick to get Alex with a splash the same way he'd gotten her, and then handed the bottle back. "Now we're even," she said. "In getting each other wet, anyway."

He still owed her a bracelet, so it wasn't completely square yet.

"Your splash technique could use some work," he said, wiping some water off his cheek and neck. "Guess the future even needs some work in some areas."

Never mind that she had splashed him in the same way he'd splashed her. He just liked to bait people even if they didn't rise to it.

"Hey, no one's perfect," Valentine said. "But it's something I'll work on, especially since I'm sure it'll be very useful to me, having a good splash technique."

"I'm perfect." He wasn't but couldn't let it go unsaid. "It's okay if you want to say that, I'll be modestly accepting."

"That's okay," Valentine said. "I think I'll just take notes instead."

"I see no notepad and pen," he observed. "Or are you one of those that takes notes in her head?"

"The mental notes will work until pen and paper or laptop are more readily accessible," Valentine said.

"That mean you're gonna follow me around while observing?" he quipped. "Because, you know, I'm a little shy."

"I don't really have to follow you around," Valentine said. "I'll probably just have to come out here and you'll be here."

"Probably," he agreed because it was true. "And you actually stayed this time. I don't know whether I should be thanking you or I should be suspicious."

"Well, you said," Valentine pointed out, "that maybe next time I should stick around for more than five minutes."

"I did," he said and nodded. "Has it been worth it so far?"

"Eh." Valentine shrugged a little, but there was a wry smirk on her face. "At least my throat doesn't hurt from shouting."

"You're a hard one to please," he said, leaning back and glancing up at the sky some. "Feel like I should do a jig or something."

Not that he'd be doing that.

"I can give you a tempo," Valentine offered with a light grin.

"I'm not doing a jig for here," he said dryly, shaking his head. "It takes at least five drinks and maybe a promise of something nice in the future to get me to dance. All I've gotten tonight is splashed with water and proof that you're not a robot."

"The five drinks and something nice in the future might have to wait, then," Valentine said, just as dry, "I wouldn't want to overstimulate you after the water and robot disproving."

"That sounds like you're making tentative future plans with me for five drinks and something nice," he quipped teasingly. "Got an open spot on your schedule or something?"

"Maybe," Valentine shrugged. "I do know the future better than you. You'll have to wait and see."
