The Roof; Tuesday Morning

Chuck had spent the early morning working (yes, working) and, after taking a break to--ahem--make use of the mental imagery Blair had given him yesterday, he felt the need to add to chill out and relax even more. Naturally this consisted of going up to the roof and getting high.

Come on, people, you know the drill by now.

She wasn't yelling, nor had she tracked him down immediately after he'd pissed her off, which might be a good sign for his continued health, but she was wearing That Face.

"Hello Francine," Chuck said, giving her a smile. Yeah, that's right. Be charming and ignore the badgerface.

"Chuck." Now the arms were crossing. Despite how vulnerable she was to the charm, dammit.

"How are you today?" he asked. He kept on smiling but he was currently racking his brain for what he did that could possibly make her mad.

"Awesome. I'm going on a field trip to another planet today and you owe Emmett five hundred bucks."

Ah-ha. "I do, do I? Well I'll have to pay him the next time I see him."

He was so not looking forward to the look on Emmett's face when he did that.

"Is that what's got you looking so..."

Badgery.

"...upset?"

"You do. And I'm not upset." She passed upset and settled into bitchy and determined sometime yesterday. "I just want to make sure he gets his money."

"Oh, Francine. You know I was kidding," Chuck said with a slight pout. "Don't be mad at me."

"I won't be, if you pay Emmett his money." Note how she did not deny that she currently was.

"Of course I'll pay Emmett his money," Chuck insisted. "The guy's an ass but I don't go back on bets."

"Of course not," Francine agreed. "So you won't mind paying him back while you're on the radio."

Chuck's smile faltered for a second because it was bad enough he had to pay Emmett money but having to do it while everybody listened was just sad. Still, Chuck wasn't one to back down from a challenge and he hadn't found anybody who made brownies like Francine did...

"Of course I won't mind," Chuck said. "I'll do it this Sunday."

It was like a *click*! One more second of suspicious badgerface, then "Okay! That works!" and a brilliant smile.

He probably should be a little frightened, yes.

Wow. Francine was insane. Not Georgie Sparks insane but...wow. "Anything to keep you happy, Francine."

Not insane. ...Mostly not insane. Just her mother's daughter, so really, really determined to... keep people happy for as long as she could.

'Kay, yeah, so, a little insane.

"That's sweet." Admittedly there might have been a tiny bit of badger left in that. "Hey, don't forget you've got that gift certificate for brownies. Just let me know when you want me to make them!"

"I'm going to have to take you up on that real soon," Chuck said. New kids always called for an excuse to get high. "After you come back to Earth, of course."
