Peter & Peter Cabin - Sunday After Fight Club [7/5]

Jon had bought stuff for s'mores on the way back from Fight Club, because s'mores were tradition and all. He was sort of happy to be back in the cabins, even if it was a walk back to the school and town. And in his good mood, he'd decided to share the s'mores goodness out by the campfire.

His mood was also helped by the fact that he couldn't stop snickering every time he went past the 'Wormhole Xtreme' cabin.

"We're living together again," Jack announced as he emerged from the cabin, where he'd quickly stowed his possessions. "Hello. Mind if I sit?"

Not that he wasn't already taking a seat, but manners never hurt.

"Again? It seems like we just got rid of each other." Jon waved to him and held up a stick full of marshmallows. "Want some?"

"I know. I'm about to decide you're following me around," Jack said, holding out a hand for the marshmallows. "Please. How have you been?"

"Wait, I was here first, so you're following me." He handed over the stick and grinned. "Pretty good. I haven't been too traumtized lately."

"Do you think the island's lost its ability to shock you?" Jack asked, as he stole an uncooked marshmallow to eat cold. "Or is is actually treating you well?"

"I think I'm becoming desensitized," he admitted. "Of course, then something pops up and I have to tell myself that at least I'm not a glowy squid."

"Mmmm," Jack said. He swallowed the marshmallow and gave Jon a fishy look. "Don't tell me one of our schoolmates turns into a glowy squid at the full moon."

"No," Jon said with a laugh. "But certain people can in my world. It involves being free of all burdens or some crap like that and meditation and then they transcend to a high plane and become glowly squid people who sit around and twiddle their thumbs for eternity."

That got a double-take.

"You aren't joking," Jack observed. "That's ... I think if I believed in a heaven, it wouldn't be a squid-shaped one."

"Oh, no. Not heaven. Just a higher plane of existence. That you could descend from, but they were kinda bitchy about that and would send you back naked and amnesiac."

"Your world," Jack said, savoring the words as much as the marshmallow, "is absolutely mental. Did you know people who ascended?"

Jack laughed, because it was true. "In my world, we also get to travel in space and to other planets. But yeah, I knew someone who did. Daniel, but he came back because he broke their 'no interference' rule."

"Look but don't touch?" Jack summarized as a guess. "That would be frustrating, I'd imagine, at least until everyone you cared for was dead."

"Oh, Daniel is one of those that has to help everyone."

"Are you?" Jack asked, curious.

He only helped people he cared about, himself.

"To a point." Jon knew that there were sometimes when you couldn't save people, Daniel usually kept trying even until he died.
