Main Campfire, Monday Evening

"No, Kate, you can't have a s'more," Bobby said sternly to the cat who was currently nosing around the s'more ingredients he'd set up. "Because s'mores aren't for cats, that's why."

No, he couldn't actually understand cat. He's just Bobby, and physically incapable of shutting up for more than a few minutes at a time.

[ooc: open! location moved 'cos I'm a dolt who didn't notice there was already an evening post set at Ninth Hell. not deleting this time, I promise.]

"Sowwy," Elena managed, overcome by a sudden fit of giggles. Right. No choking to death on marshmallows; it was an undignified end for a Turk.

Marshmallows swallowed and giggles finished, she waved a hand. "Eat first, then talk. I'll remember next time. Let's try that again. Hello, how are you, what cabin are you gracing with your presence?"
intraspective: (grinning impish)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ino was snickering.

"Might be a good idea," she said, with a grin and checking to see if her latest marshmallow had been cooked enough before sticking it back in the fire. "I'm pretty well--ordered shelves for my plants today, and I'm gracing Lightning Bug cabin with my glorious presence."

A beat.

"When I'm not out here 'cause it's way too nice to stick indoors. What cabin has you in its clutches? And how're you liking Fandom?"

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It's beautiful out, isn't it?" Elena said, looking up at the night sky. All those stars. "There were fireworks the other night, for the American holiday. I just sat on the roof and stared."

She offered a light smile. "Abaranger. I don't know what an Abaranger is, or how to pronounce it, either. I ... I like it, here. So far, I mean."
intraspective: (daddy's warrior)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah?" Ino said, glancing sideways at Elena and then smiling. "That's definitely a good thing."

She wasn't sure how else to say 'well, compared to what I've heard of your world, I can see why'.

"Abaranger," Ino added, pronouncing it precisely. "It's a--show. All the cabins are based on shows this time 'round. Yours, I think, is something 'bout good guys fighting evil." She was vague on this, admittedly, but Ino didn't watch that much television. "And mine's got something to do with these people out in space."

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Midgar was -- had been -- a lot of things, but "scenic" was not on that list.

"Abaranger," she repeated, echoing Ino's pronunciation. "Are either of our shows any good? I feel like I should at least watch an episode of it, now. The cabin equivalent of being patriotic. I'm going to be disappointed if it's crappy."
intraspective: (over the shoulder grin)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ino tugged her hair, thinking. "Abaranger's kinda... cheesy?" she said. "From what I remember? I don't watch that much television, really, but I liked some of the characters. And Lightning Bug had something to do with a government conspiracy and human experiments...?"

Ino didn't sound entirely sure about that, but that's what she remembered.

[And I need to crash for the night. SP is shiny?]

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"We should have a marathon," Elena decided. "Watch one of each of the shows, decide who has the best show and who has the worst. Best has to host a party, and worst ... free drinks at the bar?"

(SP is win! Night!)
intraspective: (Get a load of this!)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ino laughed. "And declare majority voting to be the one who decides? Because you've got to admit, even if the show is bad, I bet there'd be people who'd say it wasn't just for loyalty factor to their cabin."

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll set up impartial judges," Elena laughed. "By which I mean, you and I get to pick, and everyone else has to lump it."

Which decreased the odds that anyone else would go along with it considerably, yes.
intraspective: (dorktastic)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think we'd get many people enthused 'bout that," she said, lobbing a marshmallow in Elena's general direction. "I mean, I think it's a fantastic idea, but as I'd be naming myself a judge, that's totally biased."

Hmm.

"Or we could do it, whoever out of the two of us likes more of the shows is the winner?"

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Elena caught the marshmallow, holding onto it while she finished her thought. No more talking around gooey sugar.

"We could ... get one person from each cabin," she mused, "and everyone votes on all the shows except their own. It doesn't rule out people doing underhanded vote-swaps, but no system is perfect."
intraspective: (daddy's warrior)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now that's an idea," she said thoughtfully. "I bet I know at least one person who I can talk into coming from each cabin too, 'less you had preferences for people?"

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hardly know anyone yet," Elena said, "much less who fits into what cabin. I'm going to claim Abaranger's spot, and beyond that, I'll leave it to you."

She considered. "We could have a drinking game, to go with it," she mused. "So it'd help if it as people who aren't going to faint at the idea."

Not that she supposed Ino had a lot of friends who were likely to pearl-clutch at the thought of alcohol, but you never knew.
intraspective: (confidence)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll draw up a list," she said, "and figure it out."

And laughed.

"I don't think I'll have many issues with a drinking game. That might be a draw for some of them. That," Ino grinned, "and pretty girls."

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Elena grinned back at that. "I'd be more interested in hot boys who aren't big on commitment," she admitted.

A girl had needs, okay?
intraspective: (Get a load of this!)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally okay!

"I can think of a few," she laughed. "It shouldn't be a problem. Are we limiting this to only the number of cabins? Or just those in the vote that are limited?"

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Let's open it up," Elena said. "To anyone who wants to find out what their cabin name really means. Voting by pre-selected people only, so that we don't have to worry about all of one cabin showing up and no one from somewhere else."

Besides, there were a few rookies she could drag into it, in that case. She was determined to be a bad influence for those that desperately needed one.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll need posters," she said, fiddling with a marshmallow. "And a time and place."

This was Ino's way of utterly agreeing with everything Elena had said there.

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Could we use that bar in town?" Elena asked. "It seems like there'd be plenty of room there, and lots of available liquor."
intraspective: (over the shoulder grin)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"They've got a back room," she noted. "So we could have it back there so the shows actually get heard over the zombies."

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds perfect," Elena agreed. "Liquor and a nice, huge screen. When are you free? Most of my evenings are fairly open, so far as I know."

If everyone got too drunk, no one would remember the shows, in order to vote on them. Elena was willing to take that chance.
intraspective: (talking in class)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-08 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
"...this week," she said, squinting. "Wednesday or Thursday night? I work Saturdays and am helping someone renovate their room, so I'm pretty busy then. Or Sunday, I guess... or really any time next week..."

Ino was pretty easy.

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Thursday sounds perfect," Elena said. "Hopefully I'll be too hung over to care if we have disgusting-looking gym uniforms the next morning. Do you think we can throw this together on such short notice?"
intraspective: (studying yeah I hear you)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-07-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Gym uniforms were so ugly they got burned a few terms ago," Ino confided. "And--I think so? I can spend Wednesday calling people for the judges if you wanted to handle posters?"

She'd handle posters, but it was hard to put them up when you were stuck at work for eight hours.

Elena considered that.

"Is it okay if they're ugly?" she asked. "I don't really have any ... artistic talent or whatever."
