Zack was in a darn good mood, in spite of a pair of slightly blackened eyes and a tender nose that was a little on the crunchy side, but was totally hard-earned.

Why was he so chipper?

Because it was Rookie Day at the reserves, that was why! New people on the island meant that there were probably going to be new people here today, and Zack was totally happy to take the reigns and lead the troops!

"Okay! So, we've got a new term, and ~~possibly~~ a few new faces, so we're going to do our introductions over again! Names, fighting experience, and weapons proficiency, as well as any other skills you think might come in handy in the case of an invasion, if you please!"

Arthur shot him a slightly sideways look. "Before we get to that," he said, scraping his throat, "I am Prince Arthur Pendragon, leader of the reserves, and these are my," sidekicks, "fellow commanders, Lord Leto Atreides the Second, and Zack Fair, SOLDIER Second Class. We're willing to help you if you are in need of any further combat training, as are your fellow reserve members, I'm sure." Look, he was being good.

Zack blinked. Ooooh, right. Introductions for them was probably important too, huh?

"That's right! Come and see any of us if you're looking for help with..." Headtilt. Ponder. "Anything, really. Oh! And we have maps of the island, too! We're going to hand those out, and if the seasoned members would be so kind as to show the rookies what to look out for around here, like areas where the terrain might grant a tactical advantage, or training areas, or things to watch out for, that'd be great!"

"As for the rest of you, if you find anyone who might be interested in joining us, spread the word," Arthur called, "I know you lot think you're good, but you can always use another kick in the arse." This was what passed for humour, clearly. "Work well today. We'll see come next week."

"Ino," she said, with a toss of her head. "Seven years formal training, almost four on active duty. I'm good with wires, bombs, cards, kunai and can walk on walls and stuff."

Which left out, like, more than half of what else she could do, but whatever.

It was good enough for a start and some things she didn't talk about much anyway. OH.

"And I'm a healer." That was kinda important, yeah.

"You forgot 'lethal aim with a marshmallow,'" Zack added, grinning over at her. "You shouldn't leave out the important things, Ino!"

Yes, he was totally being a nibshit today.

She stuck her tongue out at him cheerfully. "I could prove I've got lethal aim with other things, if it'd make that omission seem less important?"

"See, now you've got me all curious," Zack smirked, putting his hands on his hips. "I'm going to have to ask you to elaborate, if only so that I know when to cover my nose around you and whatever food you decide to throw."

"Carrots," she said promptly. "Or beans. Or granola. Bananas. Almost anything edible really. Soup for blinding..."

"So you're especially dangerous while you're in the cafeteria," he grinned. "Duly noted."

She laughed.

"Well, especially dangerous to you at least," Ino amended.

"When I'm in good form, I don't usually end up bleeding because of a marshmallow," Zack chuckled, shaking his head. "Maybe we'll have to have a strategic food fight or something, just so that I can prove I'm not a total pushover."

"That'd be fun," she said, laughing. "Take over the cafeteria! Judge by how many tables we've managed to gain control of!"

"It would lead to detention so quickly," Zack replied. "I'd be game for it, though! Or even just set up a picnic out here and make use of the terrain we've got, too. Foodfight in the preserve?"

It would make for the happiest local wildlife ever.

That was less likely to get them detention, yes.

Not that Ino really considered detention to be that big of a deterrent.

"I like the preserve idea," she admitted. Mostly because it was the closest spot to her home terrain. "It'd be the weirdest picnic lunch ever though."

"Oh, I dunno. Find a clearing, set out some food, see how many grapes you can bounce off of Arthur's forehead before he throws something back. I figure that'd be about the end of it, right there, before things really start to fly around."

Zack thought these things through entirely too thoroughly, sometimes.

Ino raised her eyebrows.

"If that's all I was going to do," she said, amused. "I'd at the very least throw pudding at him."

Because, really.

"If you throw the pudding at him, let me know beforehand so that I can grab a camera?"

Pleeeeeease?

"I will 'long as you make me a copy of the pictures," she said brightly. "As I'll be busy running for my life at that point."

"Maybe I should take video, so that you're not just both motion-blurs, then?"

It seemed like a good idea! Zack's phone totally had a video option, too!

"Of course you realize that I have to talk to the dishes at Fina to see if they'd be up for organizing some picnic food for the lot of us, now."

"Ooooh," she said, giggling. "Video, definitely! You could probably get a video recorder if you wanted good quality, but phones're easier to lug 'round without being obvious."

Just a bit, Ino.

"Now you've got to beg them for it," Ino added. "Just make sure that there's, you know, pudding."

"Extra pudding, just for you," Zack promised, putting on that air of trying-to-be-solemn that he failed so, so miserably at.

"Yay!" Ino said, looking every inch a silly ditz. (Ino was a much better liar than Zack, she figured.) "I do love pudding."

Mostly, now, for the anticipation.
