The Preserve, Wednesday Afternoon

Karla grinned at everyone as they arrived, doing her best to look excited about them being there and not at all nervous. She was used to appearing in public and whatnot, wasn't she? Of course she was--ignoring the fact that the last time she'd done so, she'd been nine. Details. And it wasn't like she had anything to prove to anyone. Really.

"Kiss kiss," she said when enough people had assembled. "I'm Karla and thanks for coming to the Magic Reserves today. Whether you're here because you have powers or just because you're curious, we're glad you showed up today. This is Merlin," she continued, gesturing at her co-leader, who gave a smile and wave, "and we're the leaders of the Reserves."

"Like the Fighting Reserve which met yesterday and the Support Reserves which meets on Friday, we're here because sometimes things happen on the island. And not everyone is equipped to deal with those things. We're here to train so that we are capable of handling emergencies as well as helping out those who are not as capable. I won't lie, the most common scenario is some kind of invasion that we will help repulse, but that isn't the only reason we train. After all, this is Fandom," she said wryly, "and it lives to surprise us. The difference between us and the other two Reserves is that we are equipped with special gifts or abilities that we can use in such emergencies."

"We're not just here to organize ourselves in case of emergencies, we're also here to train so that we all have a better handle on our powers. The more comfortable you are with your powers, the better you'll be able to help out in an emergency. Also, I want to stress that having powers is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. I know that we all come from different places, and at home, such a thing might not be true. But here at Fandom, you can display your powers openly and freely without fear of reprisal." She drew her legs up so that she was perched on air. "You don't have to be afraid here. You don't have to hide who you are."

"But for today, we're just going to continue the first week trend of introductions. Name, grade, your powers if you feel comfortable sharing that, and why you decided to stop by today. Also, help yourself to refreshments. Also also, saying 'I came for refreshments' is a perfectly valid answer." She snuck a glance at Merlin to see if he had anything else to add. He seemed okay so Karla concluded with a grin. "Thanks for coming. Have at."

Karla had stopped by the The Perk and J,GoB because she had worried that this would be the one week Francine didn't bring cookies. So there was food, coffee, and tea, probably enough of each to feed the school.

Arthur... was here, lurking near the back as per usual, and well aware there were certain steps he had to take right now.

He didn't like them overtly much, but what else was new? He could hardly let her go unacknowledged.

Karla glanced at Arthur and gave him a nod of acknowledgment. She wasn't in the mood to spar with him right now, even if she hadn't given her word to Merlin that she wouldn't antagonize him. First.

Tara was there, but not looking especially mingly. Some of it was her innate shyness; some of it was that she didn't quite trust Karla's explanation that everyone wouldn't be better than she was. She sipped her tea and wondered who else would show up.

This... was the one week that Francine didn't bring cookies. Because she was planning on a baking frenzy tonight, instead. So good thinking, Karla.

She did bring herself, though, and a notebook to take down the names of any new members, and anything mentioned that Support could help with.

Leda had brought hot chocolate mix, feeling experimental in terms of flavoring her coffee.

What sort of pastry to try? That brown thing that looked like a miniature chocolate cake smelled delicious.

Momoko decided she should show up for at least one of the reserves meetings, and since she continued to miss the one on Tuesday she was here, today. Oooh! Food!

Karla felt it only fair that she go first. "I'm Karla, from the Territory of Glacia in the Realm of Kaeleer. So, not from anywhere around here. I'm a freshman and arrived in Fandom in May. I'm a Black Widow and a Healer" the Queen bit didn't seem necessary here "as well as basic Craft." She gestured towards the air beneath her. "If you're curious about what that means, feel free to ask me."

"Who'd like to go next?"

Liir stepped up, mostly because he didn't want to leave Karla up there.

"Liir," he said, glancing around, "from Kiamo Ko in the Vinkus in Oz. And no, I don't mean Australia."

He paused, in case anyone might laugh, even if the joke was a touch flat.

"Anyway," he hurried on, "I'm going to be a junior. I'm... well, I've got magick. And I've been working on it for most of the time I've been here. I'm rather good at magical inventions, know a great deal about material components, and I've got a lot of books. Oh! And I fly a broom, so, er, there's that then."

"Hi, I'm Dinah. I don't really have magic," Dinah said, looking around the group, and smiling a little. "I'm a telekinetic. And a touch-telepath. And I have clairvoyant dreams, sometimes." More often than she liked. "But I don't have to go through any rituals or spells to make it happen, it just happens, so I'm pretty sure that's not magic. I like practicing with this group though, even though I'm in the fighting reserves too."

Tara did not want to go next. Or ever. But it didn't seem like she could put talking in front of the group off indefinitely, so (after the person beside her went and she'd gotten a few expectant glances), she said softly (and slowly, so she could contain her stammer):

"I'm Tara, I'm from this tiny little town in California nobody's heard of, my mom's taught me a lot of basic witchcraft. And, uh, I'm a sophomore."

"I'm Momoko Akatsutsumi, and I'm a junior this year," Momoko wasn't sure that she should be at this one after all, but she went ahead and introduced herself. "And I can't do any magic. Oh! But when I transform, I fly, too! But that's because of the chemical Z, so it's science and not magic."

"I'm Leda, I'm a junior, and I'm an Elf. I'm from Bordertown, a city that's on the border between the Human and Faery worlds. I think it's in the midwest somewhere. Elf magic's very versatile. When the alligators attacked I shot energy blasts at them, and one time I animated some gingerbread men cookies to entertain the kiddies."
