The Valley Campfire: Monday Afternoon

Layla yawned and stretched as she exited her alcove after five days of being a leather bound set of encyclopedias. She still felt a bit fuzzy and stiff for some strange reason. It wasn't as if she had actually spent the week in bed but she still felt like she had.

Taking the opportunity to stretch her legs, Layla ambled into town to purchase some provisions from the Quik Stop. She returned to the campfire ring with a cooler of drinks and some tofu dogs for roasting as well as the goods for the actual s'mores.

After building a fire, she sat back with a cool beverage and started roasting a hot dog. After spending a week as a set of books, some fire roasted vegetable protein sounded pretty darn good.

"True," Layla admitted. "I actually would have preferred to have been an animal but apparently the powers that be had something else in mind."

"I've never been an animal except the time when everybody was ponies," Francine said. "My boyfriend was a hawk, though."

Layla chuckled a little like that. "With his ears I would have expected an elephant."

"I like Merlin's ears." Reflexively defensive, but true. Now Francine was starting to wonder if Jon had been right and she was getting talked about a lot more on radio than she realized. Which was not really a happy thought. "It was the kind of hawk he's named after. A merlin."

"I knew that," Layla said defensively. "And I think his ears are cute too. Not as cute as Jamie Madrox's ears but still cute."

Francine gave her a guarded Look of hey, Arthur's MY cute ears, but there wasn't much heat behind it. "You know Jamie?" Francine hadn't known him all that well aside from being Temari's boyfriend, but he was kind of impossible to miss at graduation. All of him. All of all of him.

"I do," Layla said with a dreamy expression. "He's so fine."

Francine gave a bit of a giggle, but... "The same Jamie Madrox who went here? Because you might have to fight a really pissed-off ninja for him."

"Not the same one," Layla said with a snicker. "Though I would have loved to see him during graduation. No. That one is from another universe than mine. Besides mine is about sixteen years older and in the middle of dealing with his current girlfriend being pregnant."

"..." Was about all Francine had for the last part, but she rallied with, "I'm sure someone took pictures."
