son of the beach campfire | evening | friday | july 17

With nothing else to do, Alex wandered out to his cabin's campfire and took a seat. Since he no longer had the random urge to sing about things no one needed to know about, he thought being out in the open was safe. Of course, that wasn't going to stop him from keeping a nondescript bottle next to his side in case he did start singing. That'd help with not remembering if he started to sing again.

And, while he didn't particularly mind lazing by a campfire, he really needed to find something to do this weekend that kept him engaged. Or, at least, entertained. Maybe he'd steal something else of Griff's. Or something.

[ooooopen campfire. friday evenings are lazeh.]

Marshmallow time! Okay, Dinah was cutting down on the sugar, but still. They'd only be in the cabins another week or so.

"Hey, Alex." She stuck a marshmallow on the end of one hangar, and offered, "Marshmallow?"

Dinah snickered. "Well, I brought cookies and chocolate too, but since I don't have to roast them, I didn't think I'd bother." She shrugged and finished fixing them to the wire. "Besides, it gives me the illusion of doing something."

"Naaah. And I already ran all over the island today. I'd head to the gym, but I saw the fire first." She grinned. "Last weekend was jumping off the dorms. This weekend, hmm, beach maybe. You got any plans?"

"Unh-uh. Although, Last weekend I had no plans, and ended up babysitting my necklace to keep it from beating people up." Dinah flashed him a grin. "Anything of yours come to life?" She turned the marshmallow, waiting for it to get golden brown, and wished she'd s'more makings.

"Or wanting to sex up someone's clothes. That seemed to be a theme." Dinah turned a little pink. "Not with mine! She had other stuff on her mind. Um. Crime-stopping stuff."

"No!" Not quite at flail level, but still unnerving. "Um, Zack's uniform hit on me. And on him. And Chuck's scarf was kinda... well, she was hitting on him. And I guess Mr. Deadpool's swords were hitting on Zack and his uniform and-- I don't get it, I admit it, okay?" Dinah grinned at Alex. "You don't listen to Radio much, do you?"

Dinah considered that, then pulled her marshmallow off the wire and popped it in her mouth, chewing slowing as she considered. Swallowing, she licked marshmallow off her fingers and said, "I like to know what they're saying, just so I have some idea of what other people think I'm doing. Plus I like the DJ's. Even if they like sometimes." She considered Alex and said, "I wouldn't have thought you'd care if they got it wrong."

Dinah floated the bag of marshmallows back up to herself, and said, "Well, Mr. Deadpool is the biggest liar, and he admits it right off, so no one will ever believe the stuff he says. It's kind of like camouflage. I get more mad when they editorialize or make fun of what I'm doing, which..." She thought of Turtle commenting on Leto, and Arthur's constant mockery, and winced. "Can get bad. But I'd rather know than not, you know?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I react. I stomped down the hall to give Arthur a piece of my mind, once. And I called Turtle on some... stuff, she said." Dinah frowned, then shrugged, popping another marshmallow in her mouth. "But. They've never said anything so bad that I actually wanted to hit someone. At least not by the time I saw them again. If that's what you mean. Not you, hunh?"

"I figured I would've heard. Well, maybe. Sometime the squirrels and the grapevine miss stuff." Dinah smiled, then admitted, "I got sent here 'cause I broke a guy's nose. Well. It was a little more complicated. He was stalking my sister with a camera. But still. I haven't gotten that mad at anyone since I got here."

"This one," Dinah said, holding up her right hand, half proud, half a little ashamed, at this distance in time. "It was dumb, but he was getting in my face, not letting me get into a cab, saying stuff, and, well." She sighed. "It'd been a long month. And he was really annoying."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeaaaah." Mostly she believed that. Although some part of Dinah believed she was always supposed to keep it together better than that. "It was just embarrassing later; my uncle's a cop. And my sister's boyfriend. And the paper's found out, and, well." Dinah spread her hand in a 'there you are' gesture. "It brought more paparazzi out of the woodwork. So, hello, new boarding school."

[Np and niiight!]

Dinah grinned. "Yeah, I love it here. Best place for me. And in another year, no one in New Gotham will remember why I left, I hope. Maybe I'll be better at avoiding those guys and keeping my temper too." She cocked her head, and instead of asking 'why' -- which could be problematic, she said, "So what do you think of the place, after what, nine weeks?"
