Second Floor Common Room: Monday Afternoon

After "Awesome" class Layla found herself in the common room sitting cross legged on the counter roasting a marshmallow on a stick with the marshmallow in question inserted into a very hot toaster oven.

And in between making and eating "indoor s'mores" Layla would spend her time writing down random haikus in her Hello Kitty journal as she thought about the events of the last week.

True, she could have gone to the campground and lit a fire but this was so much less work.

Fiona was feeling the need to be out and about, mostly because she was feeling better about life, which found her in the common room, blinking at the other girl. Once she understood what she was doing, there was less blinking, but she still wondered what was just so wonderful about marshmallows that people might feel the need to do that.

"Hi Fiona," Layla said looking up briefly from her toasting duties. "S'more?"

She waved off the offer, blinking as she... hadn't actually thought she knew the girl before pulling someone out from under her hair to put her on her lap. The kitten pouted at her before she started scritching it's ears.

"Sorry. I, uh, don't seem to remember your name. Thank you, though."

"Layla Miller," she replied as she stacked up a s'more. "I know stuff. You sure you don't want to eat? It's lip smacking goooood."

A faint smile.

"I don't eat," she said with a shrug, "but thanks. Is it really worth the trouble?"

"Totally and completely," Layla replied as she sucked a bit of sticky marshmallow off her finger. "Too bad you don't eat. It's one of humanity's crowning achievements."

Yeah, nothing she could comment on.

"Everything tastes like sawdust to me," she explained, "so there's not much of a point. But I remember eating. I liked it. Just kind of pointless now."

Trying not to be bitter, trying not to be bitter-- ooo, kitten. That was the best idea ever. Just look down and there's fluffy adorableness that can make you forget that you can't enjoy things like food anymore.

Nyx got a scritch just for that.

Firekeeper and Blind Seer made their way into the common room- still getting used to the fact that this was their floor now, after nearly a year on the 3rd.

Firekeeper tilted her head at the toaster-oven s'more making. "Did not know such was possible," she admitted.

"Just a lazy way to do things instead of walking to a campfire and lighting things up," she replied. "How are you doing Blysse?"

To be honest Firekeeper thought campfires were easier than microwaves and such, but to each their own. "Good now that sleeping problem others have is fixed."

"Yeah, that was quite the alternate universe stumper," Layla said, frowning a bit before she bit into her s'more. "I hate it when I don't know all the details. Looks like it turned out for the best though some people are going to have some post traumatic stress disorder as a result."

"I not know what many of your words mean, so I 'take your word for it' as they say," Firekeeper replied with a nod.

Layla laughed. "Yes, that's probably for the best. Did you get sucked over there too?"

"Did not," she shook her head. "And could not be much help with looking in books, here. Did not much like this doing nothing."

Common rooooom. Peeeeople. Zack approved of this combination, so, so much.

He kind of oozed into the kitchen area and rummaged through the fridge for a moment, surfacing with an apple and clutching it to his chest as though it was the last apple on Earth and he'd starve to death without it and nobody would want that, would they?

And then he glanced over at Layla and offered her a little bit of a nod.

"Kinda goes without saying that you were right, huh?"

She gave Zack a sad smile. "Just because I'm right doesn't mean I like it all of the time. Want a s'more?"

"I'd love one, thanks," Zack agreed, making no motions to actually eat his apple. Still kind of clutching to it. Focus was difficult for him at the best of times. Right now, it was practically impossible. "How are you doing? You didn't get dragged over or anything, did you?"

Either way, she was on Zack's list of people to shove Oreo cookies at later. It was like an epic quest, now. And it kept his mind off of things he didn't want to dwell on too much.

"No," she said prepping another marshmallow. "And I don't really know what happened over there. Something with it being an alternate universe or something or maybe the spell. I tried to help where I could."

She watched him and the apple for a second before adding. "You up to talking about it?"

"It was..." A nightmare. "I don't know. I did a lot of staying in one place, I guess. There was this other me, that I kept dreaming about. I think that bugs me more than the things that I did while I was over there."

A pause.

"Most of the things that I did while I was over there."

He'd earned his fair share of trauma while he was crossed over, too.

Layla frowned a little more at that as she put together the s'more and put it on a plate in front of Zack.

"I'm sorry Zack. If I had known I would have-"

She paused and shook her head. "Actually I would have let it happen exactly as it did. I doubt there was another way you could have helped those people."

Fiona held up a rather confused little kitten.

"Zack! I didn't get to show you!"

...it was totally a greeting.

"Kitty!"

That was totally a greeting, too! Or, at least it was in Zack's horribly sleep-starved brain at the moment.

She nodded quickly, glad to see him up and about and doing well.

"You can pet her if you come over and say hello."

Zack and his apple were totally incoming, now, yes, for smiles and petting and awwww, kitten.

"Is she a student, or an actual kitty?"

Totally a valid question, around here!

Nyx looked at her master for a moment before sniffing at the new person.

"Actual kitten. Tara and I went to the pet store last week and got them. Kind of got lost in the shuffle of suck."
