Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Afternoon

Kate had come out of hiding.

After several days of staying firmly in her own room, she was now in the common room, lounging on one of the couches. She was reading an old magazine and eating popcorn from a big bowl.

The magazine was fascinating enough, but she kept looking up towards the door and wondering whether she should go down the hall to knock on a random person’s door and drag them back to keep her company.

[Open! Come entertain her, so she doesn't go bother random people.]

"I can wash the dishes for you," she offered. "Don't want to mess up your special recipe."

He laughed.

"It's very hard to mess up," he told her.

"Especially at this stage. But I appreciate the help."

Joan grinned. "Yes, well, if for some reason they don't turn out the way they should, I don't want blamed."

It was obvious she was joking.

He put a hand to his chest and threw back his head in mock-hurt.

"My good woman, I assure you that if they don't come out exactly perfect, I will lay the blame at your door regardless just for entering the kitchen."

There was an attempt at a pout but mostly there were giggles.

"Maybe we should make tea to drink with the brownies."

The hand went down immediately at the mention of tea.

"Red, black, green, white, or herbal?"

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh..."

Joan didn't know that much about tea. "What would go best with them?"

Liir considered for a moment before holding up a finger and running back to his room. He came back with a small canister.

"Black with notes of cream and vanilla," he said with a smile, as he was reasonably sure it would pair very nicely with the rest.

"That sounds really good," Joan agreed. "I'll put the water on when I'm done with the dishes."

"Thank you," he said as he poured the batter into the greased pan.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do I get to lick the spoon?" she asked.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He held the spatula out to her.

"Of course."

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Joan dried her hands and took the spatula.

"Thank you," she said, licking the batter. "Mmmm."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's better as a hot brownie, I promise," he told her before putting the lot of it in the oven.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, if it's even better than I'm definitely looking forward to it," Joan said, throwing the spatula in the sink and moving to fill the tea kettle with water.

"Something to eat that's a little more filling?" he asked her, not wanting to overdo the sweets.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"That might be a good idea," she agreed. "Sandwiches?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can do a sandwich," he offered. Then he looked into the fridge.

"What would you like?"

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Joan started looking for a loaf of bread. "I'm not picky. Whatever we have is fine."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He glanced in the 'fridge before looking back.

"There's any number of things in here."

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cold works," she said.
