The Gym [Thursday Morning]

Thursdays meant Claire had no classes and no work. She got up and decided to forego her daily run in favor of heading down to the gym to do some work with the punching bag.

She did some stretches to warm up and then started practicing the various attacks that Lady Ghanima had been teaching in Fight Club. After that, she planned to go over the moves Leto had been handwavily teaching her.

"So, training to be one of those MMA girls?" Hurley joked.

Claire wasn't entirely sure what an MMA girl was, but she knew she wasn't training to be one. "No, just working on some of the stuff I've been learning at Fight Club."

"Want to be ready for the next spitting alligators thing, huh?" Hurley said.

"Yeah, that's part of it," Claire said. "Plus there are some people who are kind of looking for me."

"Wait, what?" Hurley said.

Claire shrugged. "It's a... thing. I don't read minds, but I do have an ability. And there are people who would like to study me because of it."

Or possibly worse. She knew what the Company was capable of.

"Like... frogs in science class study?" Hurley said.

"Pretty much," Claire said with a nod.

"...that would be bad," Hurley said.

"Yup. That's why my dad sent me here. To hide me. But he didn't realize what this place was like. So I'm taking advantage and learning how to protect myself."

"Man," Hurley said. "It seems like most people don't realize what this place is, before they're here."

"Somehow I doubt most of our parents would send us here if they did know," Claire pointed out.

"No kiddin'," Hurley said. "My mom would have a heart attack."

"My dad would yell a lot. And probably make me go to Europe."

"Dude, that would suck," Hurley said. "Uhhh, not that I have anything against Europe."

"Neither do I, as a concept," Claire said. "It's the idea of being banished there that doesn't sit well with me."

"Yeah," Hurley said. "Plus, Jon would be really bummed, right?"

"Probably a little," she agreed.

"Not that your dad probably would care about that," Hurley said as he chuckled.

"Oh, god, no," Claire said. "He doesn't want me dating at all."

"I'm avoiding that conversation with my mom, too," Hurley said.

"Your mom doesn't want you to date?" Claire asked.

"Oh, she probably wants me to get married so she can have grandkids," Hurley said. "But I imagine the first question she's going to ask is if she's Catholic."

"Aaaaah. See, my dad doesn't care about religion. He just doesn't trust boys around me."

Because that was so much healthier, really.
