6th Floor Kitchen, Friday Evening

Kate was - and had been for some time - in the sixth floor kitchen again, just as she had handwavily, while the mun slept like a sleepy thing been the day before.

Thursday’s shopping trip had been all about getting most of the ingredients for the actual foods served at the party, so Friday had seen Kate buying mostly drinks and fruit, which she was now dealing with in the kitchen.

She also looked at some recipes. To her credit, they only made her look slightly lost.

After all her other errands, Joan finally made her way up to the sixth floor.

"Hey, Kate, how's it going?"

Kate turned around to face her, and smiled.

"Everything's going great. I've pretty much found everything I wanted. How's things with you?"

"Well, Liir is currently a girl," Joan said. "And some guy who owns a boat looks like my mom today. But I got the decorations."

"I woke up to Bobby screaming like a girl, because he was one," Kate grinned. "It was easy to see it was going to be an interesting day. Some guy looked like your mom? That must've been weird for you."

"Totally weird," Joan agreed. "And have you met Jon O'Neill? Because he looks just like my younger brother. Apparently he's this guys teenage clone or something. It's pretty damn bizarre."

That got a raised eyebrow, along with an amused smile. "This place is both weird and complicated. I'm so glad nothing like that has happened to me. Yet."

Joan chuckled. "Good thing you added that yet. This is actually the second time the boys have turned into girls since I started going here. Except last time a bunch of us girls turned into boys too."

"Yeah, I heard about that when Bobby was a penguin. That's why I didn't freak out about it today," Kate said. "So... Did you turn into a boy, last time?"

"Yes I did," Joan said with a sigh. "It was interesting, to say the least."

"I bet," Kate chuckled. "I'm kinda intrigued, but not enough to wish it would happen to me."

"Somehow I suspect it will happen eventually," Joan said.

Liir made his way up to the kitchen to start in on things and was quite glad to see someone was already there.

"Hello. I got turned into a girl, but I should hope you can tell who it is."

He had the broom, after all.

"Probably," Kate sighed. "So, what decorations did you get?"

"handwavy ones my mun is too lazy to get links for right now," Joan said. "I figure I'll head over to the common room early tomorrow to set things up."

"Do you think being a girl will make you a better or worse cook?" Joan teased.

"Hey Liir," Kate grinned. Really, the broom was a pretty big clue. "You too, huh?"

"Sounds good," Kate nodded. "I don't think there's much rush with the foods tomorrow, but I'll come set them up early enough."

"Mostly I figured that I should get the decorations up before the room is full of people," Joan said.

"'Me too', yes," he admitted as he put down his bag. Makejoy pounded up the steps behind him, but she curled up near his things, well away from the kitchen.

"I hate leaving her in the room by herself. So... how are you, other than your correct gender, and what would you like me to work on tonight?"

"Worse, definitely," he told her as he settled his things, and his dog, well away from the kitchen, "if only because I'm not used to the size of myself. Or the, er, balance."

Joan crouched down to give Makejoy scritches. "I'm guessing flying while you're like this would be a bad plan."

"Now that's a horse of a different color entirely," he told her with a quick grin, "but that might have something to do with feeling more at home in the air than anything else."

"Too bad we have work to do," she said, grinning back.

"Probably best that way," Kate smirked. "Oh, by the way, I just remembered that I'm doing the speed-dating thing tomorrow night mainly because my mun failed at realizing she'd scheduled two things for me on the same day, so I'm gonna be running off to do that, but I'm only gonna be gone for an hour, I think."
