After getting his one class completed, Alex found his way onto the roof to smoke. It was a warm night but it was clear and that meant he could stay up here for awhile and not worry about dying of heat or getting rained on. With a free day tomorrow, getting the relaxation started early just seemed like the thing to do.

He stuck a cigarette in his mouth and lit it, letting it hang from his lips for a few moments before blowing out a cloud of smoke. He wasn't stressed by any means of the imagination but after being a girl and spending most of his weekend being lazy, it was nice to be himself and outside.

And see, he was even being nice, getting out of the room in case Griff wanted it. He was all heart.

"Hey," Alex replied, glancing over to see who belonged to that voice. "You're up late."

It wasn't that late.

Claire raised her eyebrow at him. "It's not that late."

"Not past your bedtime?" Alex joked, smirking. "Thought you went to bed early for some reason."

"My momma said I could be out after the street lights come on now that I'm a big girl," Claire retorted.

"My mistake," he said, not sounding that apologetic. "What're you doing all the way up here in the smoke filled air? Want some lung cancer?"

"Not one of my top ten concerns," she said. "I just wanted to be outside for a bit."

"Hear that," he said, nodding and turning back to the view he had. "Be nicer when it's not so fucking hot."

"I don't mind the heat," she admitted. "But then again, I'm a Texas girl."

"I'm from Iowa, used to the heat but I'd still like it to be cooler," he said, shaking his head. "Personal preference, right?"

Claire nodded. "Yeah, if we all liked the same things, the world would be a boring place, right?"

"It's pretty boring sometimes anyway so no need to make it more boring," he decided. "I already barely get by without playing in traffic to entertain myself."

"I somehow suspect that playing in traffic would lead to a lot more boredom," she pointed out. "If you get hit by a car and end up in traction, there isn't much you'd be able to do."

"Hot nurses and sponge baths," he said easily. "That's all I need."

Claire made a face and was glad she would never have to deal with anything like that.

"You don't think you'd get bored of that after a while?"

"Of hot nurses and sponge baths?" Alex frowned. "If I ever get tired of hot nurses sponging me up, I'm giving back my guy card."

"Is that really all guys think about?" she asked.

"How do you sound so surprised?" Alex wondered, snickering.

Claire shrugged. "I don't know. My boyfriend doesn't act like that's all he thinks about."

"He's a guy, he thinks about it," Alex said confidently. "Some of us are just more vocal."

"Well, it's not like girls don't think about it," Claire pointed out. "We just don't think about it as much."

"You make it sound like it's so bad to think about," he observed. "Really, I'd rather think about that than almost anything else. Keep the mind happy, right?"

"I guess," she said. "There are plenty of things that make me happy though."

"Lucky you," he said, shrugging a shoulder. "We can't all be like that."

"There's nothing that makes you happy besides sex?"

Somehow Claire found that hard to believe.

Nothing that he'd admit to, at least. Not that kind of guy.

"That so wrong?" he asked, smirking again.
