Beyond the rapidly-healing scratch on his left arm, Arthur looked downright sprightly today, for whatever measure of the phrase. He rubbed his gloves together as the reservists arrived, and didn't stop until everyone was there. "Two weeks ago, we spoke about guerilla tactics," he said, "I hope you've remembered some of it. Today, we'll be focusing on the stealth, rather than the immediate location of the ambush. We must find ways to render ourselves completely inaudible when need be, both through the use of tools, and our own skills."

He considered the group. "If any of you - including those of you affiliated with the other groups rather than this one - know of any tools at your own disposal that will minimize our own noise, especially in forestal environments or cobblestoned roads or the like, please share those with everyone so that we will know what options we've got if the time comes."

"As for the skills, a bit of hands-on practice might be needed." He nodded towards the preserve. "A while ago, we hid and sought each other out in the woods. Now, I propose something similar, but different. Form up pairs. One of you will venture deep into the forest, and then attempt to return here--" He leaned back to pat a particular spot on the dorm wall, "Without being spotted. You may draft others onto your team, if need me. The other must, at the very least, fully discern the location of the first, and whether or not they're alone-- and if possible, catch them."

He crossed his arms. "Remember that the movement of our troops and their numbers alone is valuable information in the hands of the enemy," he finished, "So it's key that you make sure you are not seen, nor heard enough to find."

"I'm not that good at it," she had to admit.

"Well, I'm not bad, but I'm sure most of the others here are better. Eliot and I kind of failed at 'stealth'."

"Why is that?" Leto asked. "And I shouldn't worry if I were you. You are a fast learner." He pushed her hair behind her ear.

She grinned at that.

"Well, to be fair, that first time was kind of an unfair test: the whole military base against the two of us. But we weren't allowed to play games like hide-and-seek or anything. Just nothing we ever did."

"A whole military base?" That sounded like an interesting story.

"Yeah," she told him, "since our objective was to get something from inside. It didn't go so well."

"Why?" Leto asked. "What were you trying to do."

Now she was blushing.

"Uh... steal something. It was necessary, and it was originally my family's, but the US government didn't really agree."

Leto saw no reason to pass judgement on something like that. "But you didn't get it back?"

Her eyes revolved around the clearing as she tried to think of a way to put this that didn't make her intensely uncomfortable. After all, the whole thing had been to save her life. It had been necessary. But that didn't make it right.

"We got it. Eliot just had to do some stuff with his violin so that we could."

'Stuff' in this case being raising a sea of mists full of the ghosts of the damned that had slaughtered and mutilated (or else made a lot of very very evocative sound effects in that direction) the majority of the base personnel in their way.

Sensing this was a sensitive subject, Leto didn't ask any further. Instead he smiled at Fiona. "At least that is some kind of experience. And I've been told that this exercise is like a fun child's game."

"I've played it once before," she had to admit, thinking back to a couple months ago.

"I'll be all right. I just have to remember to put my flower away when I come next week. What about you? Do you have experience with this?"

"I have avoided being found by people plenty of times," Leto replied. "It is a useful skill if you need more privacy than others might want you to have."

That got a somewhat teasing smile.

"Here or at home?"

"At home, mostly," Leto replied. "Ghani and I were always good at it."

She laughed.

"Should I ask your step-mother about that? I should go see her anyway, though. It's been a while."

"If you do, I'm sure she'll tell you more stories than you'd ever wanted to hear," he said, grinning. "So I would advise against it."

She raised an eyebrow.

"I think I'm going to have to ask her now. Just because it means I get more stories."

"Hm," Leto said, then added after a pause: "I'm sure Irulan is going to appreciate your interest. Don't tell me I didn't warn you."

She grinned.

"I won't. If it really bothers you, me asking her, I won't. But if you're just trying to save me from supposed boredom, it's totally not necessary."

"I haven't done anything I wouldn't admit to," Leto said neutrally.

"All right," she said, equally neutral.

"Is there anything she likes, other than hats?"

"She does enjoy the study of history," Leto said, then grinned. "Although I do believe she hopes for grandchildren to keep her busy."

Her eyes went wide.

"Well, I can't bring her any of those as a little present!"

He burst out laughing. "No, you can't! But if you want to give her a present I'm sure a book of some kind would be appreciated. Or something for her home. Why?"

"I haven't seen her for a while," she said primly, chuckling a little herself, "and I thought it might be nice."
