The Deck: Tuesday Night [8-18-09]

The sky was threatening rain, but it had been hot enough that a little rain actually might not be all that bad. Besides, there was a nice breeze that felt just heavenly.

Peyton stretched out on one of the lounge chairs and debated whether she should order a pizza to be delivered. Then again, maybe she should wait. She probably wasn't the only one who'd want to take advantage of the breeze.

"North Carolina gets pretty humid, but the sea breeze always helps," Peyton said. "Actually, if I had more motivation I would have gone to the beach tonight."

"I haven't actually checked out the beach here, yet," Ellie said. "Which is kinda weird considering there are lots of beaches where I'm from."

"It's a pretty great beach," Peyton told her. "Lots of coastline, being an island."

"I'll definitely have to check it out, then," Ellie decided. "I'm Ellie, by the way. Pretty sure we haven't met, yet."

Ellie. Peyton looked wistful for a moment, then smiled. "Ellie. Nice name. I'm Peyton."

"I definitely prefer it to my full name," Ellie said with a slight chuckle. "Nice to meet you, Peyton. Have you been here awhile?"

"About a year," Peyton said. "Too short, if you ask me."

"Oh?" Ellie said. "Are you leaving soon?"

"Have to be out before the new students come in," Peyton admitted. "Really, really soon now."

"So you're all graduated then?" Ellie guessed.

"Signed, sealed, and delivered," Peyton said with a grin.

"Well, congratulations to you, then," Ellie said genuinely. "Sorry you have to leave soon, though."

"Yeah, me too. But gotta kick the birds out of the nest sooner or later, right?

"What are your plans when you leave here?" Ellie asked curiously. "Going home?"

Peyton sighed. "That wasn't the original plan, but it is now. At least for now. I'm going to try and apply for spring semester at college."

"Ooh, which college?" Ellie asked. "I'm sorry if I am sounding nosy. I'm just curious about the whole college process."

Peyton laughed. "See, that's part of the whole waiting till the spring semester thing. I have no idea yet."

"There are many to choose from, at least," Ellie said. "I wish you luck with that."

"Thanks," Peyton said with a grin. "I need all the luck I can get!"
