The Deck: Tuesday Night [8-18-09]

The sky was threatening rain, but it had been hot enough that a little rain actually might not be all that bad. Besides, there was a nice breeze that felt just heavenly.

Peyton stretched out on one of the lounge chairs and debated whether she should order a pizza to be delivered. Then again, maybe she should wait. She probably wasn't the only one who'd want to take advantage of the breeze.

Claire smiled back. "Pretty much the exact opposite of me then."

"Really overprotective parents?" Peyton guessed.

"My dad mostly," Claire said. "My mom isn't too bad."

Peyton nodded. "My mom died when I was eight. It's been just dad and me since then."

"I'm sorry," Claire said. "My birth mother was presumed dead when I was a baby. That's why I was adopted."

"That's got to be hard," Peyton said. "Seems like lots of people here have Daddy issues have lost someone in their family."

Claire nodded. "Yeah, it's kind of weird, really."

"It is," Peyton said. "But who can figure out Fandom, right?"

"No one, I don't think," Claire admitted.

"Well, in a little while I'll be wondering about it from a distance," Peyton said with a sigh.

"But you'll come back to visit, right?" Claire asked.

"Sure," Peyton said easily. "Homecoming and all that."
