Fifth Floor Common Room, Friday morning

Raven really didn't expect to get mail, but ever so often she'd check because it was the normal thing to do. This morning she was surprised to find that somehow "Rachel Roth" had ended up on some sort of mailing list, because she had credit card offers and other junk mail. Most of it was discarded, of course, but one item drew her attention and she decided to look through it. Said item, which she now was curled on the common room couch reading, was a catalog for something called "The Pyramid Collection."

Raven was soon enthralled by the offerings, including the hooded velvet coat, and the halcyon ribbon dress, and the purple rose dress, and the bordeaux dress, and the velvet and taffeta dress, and the velvet moonbeam dress, and, ooooh, the Raven necklace.... Maybe she should reconsider those credit card offers after all.

The vampires welcome mat was right out, of course. But maybe she should get the vampire book. Purely for research purposes.

Jennifer poked her head into the common room. She had a suitcase in her hand.

"Oh, hi Rachel," she said. She entered properly and went to sit down. "Good catalog?"

"Yes, it is," Raven said. "There are so many lovely things! I may have to make a list of what I wish to buy."

"Wow, that is a good catalog," Jennifer said. "You end up winning the lottery or something?"

"No, but I have little on which to spend the money I earn working, so I have been saving it," Raven said. "Lady Aphrodite pays well."

"You're working at the... the that store?" Jennifer said.

"Yes," Raven said, blushing and looking down. "Shortly after she arrived Lady Aphrodite called me and told me I had a job there. I do not know why she desired my employment, but knowing now that she is a goddess, how can I refuse her?"

"...wow, that's one way to get a job," Jennifer said.

"Joan had advised me to seek a job," Raven said. "But before I could, I received the call from Lady Aphrodite. Is that not how students usually find jobs here in Fandom? I thought perhaps the school had assigned me. Why, I do not know."

"...magic?" Jennifer said, thinking it the only sensible explanation.

"Possibly," Raven said. "She is a goddess, after all. I fear I will be a disappointment to her when it comes to matters of love, however."

"...If she tries to make you do love things, that's called sexual harassment," Jennifer said. "We can sue her for that."

"No, nothing like that," Raven said quickly. "But I do not understand what many of the items sold in the store are used for. Or why one would want to use them for their apparent intended purpose."

"Oh," Jennifer said. "Well, I guess you could always... ask her?"

Raven just gave her a horrified look.

"So you can be a better employee?" Jennifer said.

"There are some that I think I am safer not knowing the purpose," Raven said, clinging to what little was left of her innocence.

"...Maybe only ask about specific things?" Jennifer said. She was trying to be helpful.

"Perhaps you are right," Raven sighed. "I should not allow myself to be discouraged by my own ignorance and unease."

"Hey, you're braver than me. I practically ran away when I just wandered into the store by accident," Jennifer said.
