Now that Merlin was a reporter for the school paper, it would seem that research needed to be done on just what sort of interviews he ought to do.

He was, of course, researching this by watching television. Fox News to be specific.

And right now he was almost certain that he couldn't find some sort of secret drug trade on the island in order to make his article more interesting.

Well... maybe if he interviewed Chuck.

Priestly was actually out and wandering around on the weekend. The world might be ending.

Okay, so actually he was just trying to hunt down a specific sort of mustard which he was certain had to be in at least one of the common rooms.

He glanced at the TV as he aimed for the kitchen. "Huh. Fox News. You know they're trying to take over the world, right?"

That just got Merlin to squint at the angry man on the television a bit harder. "By yelling over people?"

"Yep, pretty much." Priestly shrugged. "I never said they were doing very well at it."

"I think I prefer the channel about all the food," Merlin admitted as an older man on the screen started talking about the government trying to kill the elderly.

"It tends to make more sense." Priestly opened the refrigerator and started sorting through it. "And has way less bias. I mean, sure, you've got the haute cuisine dudes and the loud dudes but you've also got the dudes who just wanna talk about how awesome cake is. That right there is a good variety of coverage."

"I like that cake show!" Someday he'd attempt to make one and Francine would very kindly have to take him aside and explain why this was a bad idea.

"Oh man, I know, right? Some of the stuff they make is incredible."

"I liked the one with the flamingos," Merlin admitted. He knew what those were!

"That one was impressive. Kinda girly, what with all the pink, but definitely impressive. I like it when they make 'em look like castles and shit."

"They've done castles?" Oh, the poor boy didn't watch enough, it seemed.

Priestly nodded. "And, like, stadiums and shit. Some day, man, I'm gonna figure out how to do something like that with sandwiches."

"...that would be something I would like to see."

What? He was still a teenage boy!

"I'll let you know when I do it, man."

"I'd think you might need to do a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Those don't fall apart."

Just make a mess with sticky, instead.

Priestly nodded. "At least as a base. And some food coloring for the bread."

"You ought to use marshmallows somehow," Merlin suggested with the wisdom of the ages.

"And maybe bananas." Priestly grinned. "Man, you're just full of ideas."

"I've watched a lot of that channel." God help him and his crush on Paula Deen.

"That's 'cause food is awesome. Why're you watching Fox News, now?"

I was trying to see how newspeople are supposed to interview for their stories."

A beat.

"I don't think I can yell that much."

"Why would you want to?" Priestly shook his head. "If you want good reporting, you're totally on the wrong station. And possibly in the wrong decade."

"...what should I watch then?"

Because television had the answers to everything.

Priestly considered this for a long moment. "I kind of like the one on Comedy Central. I mean, the guy's totally slanted and makes fun of the news, but he's not pretending not to be, like these dudes are, and when he yells it's usually just to be heard over the audience or a plaintive cry for a return to intelligent thought and honesty."

"...Comedy Central." Merlin sounded as though he was memorizing that. "Are most like these people?"

"Well . . . yeah, a bit. Though, actually, CNN and MSNBC are said to be way more liberal. And . . . kinda more boring. Jon Stewart's liberal, but he's funny -- on purpose -- so he's got that going for him."

"And they interview people a bit?" And without yelling obscenities hopefully. Oh, America.

"Yeah, sometimes. Stewart does one interview per show."

"Then I will watch that and--come up with something to talk to people about."

Maybe the dangers of glitter.
