Salle, Monday Morning

After a week, showing back up in the salle was turning back into the calming ritual that it had been. And at least he hadn't gotten abducted to anything this weekend (if you didn't count Zack's birthday party, which he'd been dutybound to show up to no matter what) so it was with reasonable calm that Arthur made his way down into the salle with his sword, picked a good spot, and went to work.

He might even get a few drills in before Tweety showed up. That would be encouraging.

Merlin, of course, was back to work in the corner, and got his usual occasional glance. Or text message.

"Okaaaay." Dinah raised her sword, and jabbed at it, thinking she hoped not to be electrocuted in mid-strike.

When the tip of the sword met the "shield", it met a soft resistance, like jabbing a rubber ball, and then the blue light splintered and fell, disappearing before it touched the ground. Tony sighed. "It needs some work."

"Still, you're on the right track," Dinah pointed out. "That wasn't nothing, even if it fell apart fast." She frowned. "You have to draw something that means 'shield' to you, right?"

"Yeah," Tony said. "That's why I figured-" He waved at the shield leaning against the nearby wall.

"Ohh. Yeah." She frowned, biting her lip. "I dunno. I mean. It's protection, right? What kind of symbol do you think of for that? You never deal with these shields."

"I don't know. Condoms?" He frowned. "That'd be weird and kinda gross."

"TONY!"

Someday. SOMEDAY he wouldn't be able to do that to her.

But today is still not that day.

Tony grinned. "What? It's what I think of when you say protection."

Dinah was still giggling. "When you say it, not when I say it, jeeeez." Snickering, she said, "And I think you need something sturdier than a condom to protect you from bad magic."

"A magic condom?" Tony suggested.

Double facepalm. With snickers. "For what, magic sex? With magic beings? No no no no..."

"I think," Tony said, trying to keep a straight face, "that we may be straying a bit from the path here."

Giggling, Dinah said, "Yes, but maybe you can make them giggle themselves to death." Clearing her throat, she said, "Right! Um. Riot shield, maybe?"

"That'd be pretty similar to the medieval kind," Tony said. "No, I think you're right. I need to figure out a symbol for protection and it doesn't need to be a physical shield."

"If it were me, it'd be a little bat symbol," Dinah said, thinking aloud. "But yeah. I dunno." She frowned, then shook her head. Not a lot of people or things had protected Tony in his life. "Anyway, I'll help, if you figure anything out."
