the roof - monday midday - 9/14

Fiona didn't often come up here. For one, despite an uneven temperament, she wasn't much for 'emo'ing. For another, she was usually reasonably comfortable in her room. But today, she'd come up to the roof with her phone and a couple of books and had decided to make a time of it. The wind was actually sort of refreshing and there was something to being up here, sitting in the sun, that fit her mood for the day.

Which, her being her, was thoughtful for the moment.

Her call to Eliot went well, her call home went quickly, her call to her Uncle Henry involved a few soft laughs, her call to her Aunt Dallas was aborted quickly if only to save her from going pink, and her call to her Uncle Aaron was about the same as the last one with one small addition.

"You have other abilities, Fiona. Learn them, get comfortable with them, know their limits, or they'll be used against you someday."

...which was the most relaxing thing ever, of course.

Dad was a little better, but he kept asking about Griff and how she felt about him which was just weird and nothing she wanted to talk about with her dad. When he asked what his parents did and what his prospects for the future were, she gave him a quick goodbye, claimed she had to go (which wasn't strictly a lie, since she was reasonably sure she'd die of mortification soon enough) and closed the phone. Wuhf.

The books weren't nearly so stressful but she was almost hoping someone would come up and provide a little company.

[open like a roof!]

Well, Didi was good at providing company and not Fiona's mom, omg. She emerged onto the roof and leaned over the edge, so far that it might almost look risky.

Tossing "Good morning," over her shoulder, she went back to studying ... whatever she was studying.

Drinking his weight in alcohol last night hadn't really done anything for Alex save for giving him a brutal hangover. After awhile, he just needed some fresh air so he found his way to the roof, giving Fiona cursory glance as he arrived and reaching for his cigarettes.

"I didn't know you smoked." He'd learn soon enough that this wasn't just a smoking roof. Maybe he'd learn.

"Thanks, but I think I'll be fine," Didi said, with a quick smile. "It's just amazing to watch the water from here."

Oh, hey, he was in her Dark Arts class -- not that Didi remembered his name.

He still got a, "Good morning. You know those are bad for you, right?"

"I didn't know anyone came up here to do anything else," he replied, paying more attention to trying to light his cigarette than responding to her. Priorities, people.

"How boring," he added, glancing at her again.

"There's a lot of things that are bad for you," Alex said, not stopping in trying to get a cigarette lit. "Doesn't mean you should stop doing them."

"I figured," Didi said, finally turning her back to the edge to look at the girl. "Unless Fiona's a new greeting. My name would be Didi."

She added, "I don't smoke. Do you?"

"It's your funeral," Didi shrugged, and watched him with the lighter for a second. "I'm Didi, by the way."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-14 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine," he answered shortly, deciding that lying was just going to have to be his game for awhile. Besides, he wasn't going to bitch about a hangover to just anyone.

Griff usually got that whining honor.

"Just decided to take a break from all the volunteer work I've been doing to come up and have some time of my own."

Lying was really his game today.

"I know," he said, glaring for a brief moment before shaking his head. "Alex. You the daughter of the surgeon general or something?"

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-14 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Spreading the wonder that is me around," he supplied, gesturing with his arm. "Giving back to those that need it. That kind of shit."

Yeah, really.

"Here? Yeah, as of two weeks ago. I really like it. Hadn't seen the roof before, though. Have you been here long?"
living_endless: ([neu] I know you)

"Hi Alex," Didi said cheerfully. "Do I look like the daughter of the surgeon general?"

She looked, in point of fact, like a pretty girl who was dressed entirely too Goth for a Monday morning.

"Even the best of us need a break," he said, shrugging. "What do you wanna do for me?"

Never one to turn done free things, this one.

"I don't know the surgeon general so I wouldn't know," Alex replied, shrugging a shoulder. "Look like you're going to some funeral."

"Yeah, I noticed that already," Didi said. "People seem to kind of ... take all the differences at face value. You don't see that often."
