Third Floor Common Room, Monday Afternoon

So, in the spirit of Zakat al-fitr, Kate was in the common room, making something for others to eat.

She’d been feeling sort of triumphant for no apparent reason at all since the night before, but what she was making wasn’t M.O.T.s. No, they were just regular chocolate muffins, and the first batch was just about ready to be taken out of the oven.

Waiting, Kate leaned on the kitchen counter, reading some celebrity gossip magazine.

"Hey Kate," Hurley said.

"...special occasion?"

Jack was wandering around the dorms, and detected cooking being done. Burtons can tell this.

"Hey, whatcha making?" he asked, grinning at Kate.

"Hi Hurley," she smiled at him, looking up from the magazine. "Not really. ...Well, there was this thing in religion class."

"Muffins," Kate grinned back. "There'll be some ready in like--" The timer went off. "Now."

"Oh yeah?" Hurley said. "What sort of things?"

"We had a feast because it's the end of the Muslim month of fasting," she told him, "and there's this thing that you're supposed to pay alms for the fasting month, and apparently you can do that by giving food to people."

"...Hooray for the end of fasting," Hurley said. "Ummm, assuming that means you're sharing."

"Definitely does," she nodded with a smile, going to take the first batch out of the oven. "It's not like I could eat these all by myself. ...Well I could, but I'd feel gross."

"I don't think I could eat them all without feeling gross," Hurley said with a chuckle.

"So it's best that neither of us try," Kate concluded. She put the second tray in the oven. "I think I might take one for Mitchell tomorrow."

"Bribing the teachers is always a good idea," Hurley said.

"I know!" she chuckled. "Would take one to my other class tomorrow, too, but since that's Anyone Can Cook, I don't think I will."

"Well, see how they turn out. If they're really good, it might be worth a shot?" Hurley said.

"I always did have a good sense of timing," he said. "Mmmm, muffins. Need any help?"

"I think I'll see how the class goes before I try to bribe chef Tatou," Kate noted. "Who knows? I might not need to."

"Doing well in it?" Hurley said. "I'm starting to think I should've signed up for the class."

"No thanks, I'm good," she said. One tray out, another tray in. "Of course, all the hard work is still ahead. Mainly, eating the muffins. And you're totally welcome to help with that."

"I haven't set anything on fire yet, and I've still got all my fingers," Kate grinned. "I don't know, it's kinda too soon to tell."

"Well, the first two things are good," Hurley said. "So how's everything else? Other than retaining all your fingers."

"Everything's good," she replied. "Nothing major to bitch about."

"Cool," Hurley said. "Anything minor you want to bitch about?" He smirked.

"I take that sort of hard work seriously," he said with a wink. "They look good!"

"I slept a little funny most of last week?" she offered with a chuckle. "Still kinda feeling the effects of that."

"Of course they look good!" she said, mock-outraged, and then smirked. "Should taste good, too."
