Sixth Floor; Late Tuesday Afternoon and On! [ 09/24 ] -- Ino's Birthday Party!

There was hopefully no way that Ino could begrudge Cal having her party a day late, especially since it was a far cry from being a day short. The food he had planned caused him to get some use out of that sixth floor kitchen and space, and he'd been to the task ever since he finished with Oceanography class in hopes to get it finished before everyone started showing up. If they did. He'd handwavily because the mun sucks passed out the invitations through everyone's door, but who only knew with the drama of yesterday.

If no one showed up, he'd have to deal with a pouting Ino. But, on the bright side, he'd have all this delicious Greek food for leftovers basically until eternity, because there was a lot of it.

He'd even decorated a little, subtly, with some occasional touch of purple. And a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO!" banner in case anyone couldn't figure out what it was all about. Throw on some music, and there it was. There was nothing to the party part. It was mostly about the food, anyway.

Oh, and Ino. Her, too.

[[ up early for great SP justice! Everyone got invites, so come one, come all, but please wait for some OCD has arrived! ]]

From the fuss, it wasn't too hard to figure out who the birthday girl was, so Didi made her way over to say hello before the party got too hectic.

"Hi," she said. "Ino, right? I'm Didi. Thanks for inviting everyone to your party. Happy birthday."

Ino had had nothing to do with the invitations, but hey, she probably would've done the same so...

"Yup, I'm Ino--nice to meet you, and well," Ino laughed, "the more the merrier, right? What'd be a party without a lot of people?"

Pssssh, like it mattered who actually passed out the invitations. It was Ino's party.

"It would be sad," Didi said, almost serious. "Just you and a cake. Well, and the ball pit."

"So which birthday is this?"
intraspective: (confidence)

"Sixteenth," she said, pleased as punch about that. "Which means I inch closer to being able to everything legally in this world."

Very very slowly inching.

"And the ball pit is totally a consolation prize if loads people don't show."
living_endless: ([pos] you might be okay)

"One more year until R-rated movies, huh?" Didi said. "But you're probably in my class, then. Junior?"

She glanced over at said ball pit. "I have a feeling the ball pit will see some action tonight. It's so cool the school put one up here. I haven't been in one in ages."

[OOC: Dear LJ, email my notifs, thank you.]

"Junior and rocking it," she agreed, following Didi's gaze. "I think some will come just for the ball pit, but that's totally okay too. Did you start this fall, or sooner and I just missed you?"

[Notifs would be nice, yes yes.]

"Just started at the start of the month," Didi answered. "I'm still sort of new and shiny -- well, to school at least. Have you been here a long time?"
intraspective: (already crazy!)

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"A bit over two years now," she said, "started all wide-eyed and innocent as a freshman."

Depending on your definition of innocent, yes.

"Having fun here, at least?"
living_endless: ([neu] I know you)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, always," Didi said. She was moving into 'bubbly babble mode.' "There are people, and stores, and classes, and -- I taped a mummy together while I was a boy yesterday. I can honestly say I've never done that before."
intraspective: (are you REALLY sure?)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That was an awesome mode.

"You taped a mummy together?" Ino asked, blinking. "Ewww. Was it super gross?"

A beat.

"Aren't there people most places?"
living_endless: ([neg] kitty ears say you're dumb)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Didi blinked, then rubbed the bridge of her nose. "I really did say mummy, huh? I meant zombie. But yes. Way, way too gross, even with a helper."

Thank you, Alex.

"And yeah, there are people everywhere. I just ... like these people. I don't usually get to stay in one place all that long."
intraspective: (trying not to laugh)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ino shuddered. "I think the zombie is worse than the mummy." Ewwwww. "Why would someone think that was a good idea?"

Ick ick ick.

She gave Didi a considering look at that. "Sounds like a story," she commented lightly. "But some people don't like prying."
living_endless: ([spec] the sound of her wings)

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have to ask the Dark Arts professors," Didi said, waving a hand. "I think it was supposed to show us not to be too afraid, or something?"

And then she returned Ino's look. "Yeah, there's a story, but some people don't like to use other people's birthday parties to unload their life stories. Or does that mean you want to know?"
intraspective: (totally innocent)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ino put on her most innocent expression.

"Well," she admitted, "prying is sort of a life-time career of mine," what, with the whole ninja-spying thing, "so it's really up to you on the timing? 'Cause, yeah, I want to know, but if you'd rather some other time, that's good too."
living_endless: ([neu] two faces)

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I dunno, if I wait it seems like I'm making some big secret out of it," Didi said. "Which is weird for me."

Her hands went into her pockets as she kept talking. "Right, so I'm Death, I'm technically only about a month old as a mortal, and, uh ... that's the highlights."

She clearly did not care if she was believed or not.
intraspective: (are you REALLY sure?)

...

"...like, controls who lives and dies--that Death? Skeleton dude with scythe?"
living_endless: ([neu] come this way)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"No." That would be silly.

"The Fates control who lives and dies. I just ... show up at the end and help you to the next world." At the start, too, but humans never remembered that. "People here are way fixated on the skeleton-and-scythe idea."
intraspective: (grinning looking down)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's kinda hard to miss the skeleton thing here," she said, almost apologetically. "With, like, Halloween. But if you were, I was going to say, you're definitely rockin' a better body these days."

It was true.

"Do the Fates control everything else too? Or just dying and stuff?"

'The Fates said I'd do it' was an awesome sounding excuse for things, really.
living_endless: ([comic] glare + name)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, thanks," Didi grinned. "I don't get it. Sometimes people see what they want to see, but ... if you had a choice, why would you pick a skeleton?"

(Someone had not read much Terry Pratchett.)

She tilted her head at Ino's other question. "That one all depends on how you look at it. You always have choices, though."
intraspective: (charming)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tradition?" Ino hazarded a guess. "I mean, not mine, but that does seem to be it 'round here."

Ino grinned. "Okay," she said, nodding. "I can deal with that, I think. As long as there's choices."
living_endless: ([neu] listening)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"There are," Didi reassured her. "So what's your tradition? I'm guessing you're from a different world."
intraspective: (confidence)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"For Death?" Ino shrugged a bit. "Mostly, he's an ugly old man-monster hybrid. He eats souls of those who make bargains with him."

A quick rueful smile. "Very different world," she added. "Not anywhere near this one, really."
living_endless: ([pos] you might be okay)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Didi concurred. "I don't eat souls, but it's a bad idea to bargain with something bigger than you are. Well, usually. I've known a couple people who gamed the system and got to live a really long time."
intraspective: (grin in mostly b&w)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] intraspective 2009-09-24 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ino tugged on her hair idly.

"I don't know anyone who tried bargaining with him for that," she admitted, "but people can, if they're willing to pay the price, get him to do other things--like seal things up, and such. It's worth it, to some people, even if they're not 'round to see the result."
living_endless: ([neu] really?)

Re: The Birthday Girl! -- 09/24.

[personal profile] living_endless 2009-09-24 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Didi tilted her head to the side. "Yeah, usually when somebody wants to talk to me for a bargain, it's either they don't want to die or they want somebody they love not to be dead. The second one doesn't usually work out all that well, either. But -- there are always exceptions and, like you said, sometimes it's worth it to someone."
